Job Description:
SUMMARY
Entry level position where on-the-job training is provided for learning to operate shears, hydraulic presses and brakes, hand brakes, punch presses, and other equipment and tools to cut, form, and attach metal together. Certain level of manual labor required to support experienced fabrication operators.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Observes and assists experienced fabrication operators in the performance of the job duties following in order to learn and develop the skills required to perform all job duties.
+ Will be required to learn to operate machines required to for production.
+ Inspects machine daily for safe operation and reports any issues to supervisor immediately.
+ Positions, aligns and bolts dies, blades, bedplates, cushion pins, and stops, using shims and measuring tools. May set up automatic or multipurpose machines.
+ Differentiates between various metal types and thickness to ensure correct type of metal is being used in the particular task assignment. Adjusts flow of lubricants, pressure and depth of stroke, or feed of material, applying knowledge of thickness and properties of metal or according to standard specifications. Determines special handling procedures or techniques needed for specific project.
+ Reviews end product of work performed for errors or deficiencies and takes steps required to correct such errors or deficiencies found.
+ Accurately and efficiently completes all forms and reports related to work performed in the fab shop.
+ Clears jams and corrects minor malfunction of machines. Reports need for machine repair to supervisor.
+ May be required to cross train and become proficient on operation of all machinery in the department.
+ Inspects products and processes while performing job duties to ensure all work done meets or exceeds standards of the company’s quality program.
+ Works cooperatively and congenially with co-workers to achieve cohesive and productive work processes and work environment.
+ Perform additional tasks as assigned by management or as the situation requires.
QUALIFICATIONS
+ Keen awareness of equipment safety and its potential hazards.
+ Ability to follow verbal and written instructions regarding procedures required for the operation of the various machinery used in the shop.
+ Ability to use tape measures, squares, straight edges, rulers, calipers, micrometers, gauges, feeler, templates and hand tools
+ Possess basic mechanical aptitude and ability.
+ Ability to read blueprint and understand tolerances.
+ Ability to communicate clearly with co-workers and supervision.
+ May require OSHA required forklift license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
+ Attend work regularly and report promptly for duty on the days and at the times scheduled by the supervisor.
+ Schedule changes occur and should be handled in a productive manner
+ Working temperatures vary with seasonal changes where climate control is limited. The environment is one in which noise exists.
+ Stand, and/or walk for a combined minimum of eight (8) hours per day on a concrete surface.
+ Lift and carry components, tools, or other items weighing more than 35 pounds. Any item over 35 pounds, is to be done with assistance
+ May perform combination of physical movements to reach areas difficult to access including bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, twisting and rotation motions using head/neck, arms, wrists, waist, knees and arms while performing duties.
+ Pull and push up to 100 pounds.
+ Use of hands to actuate machine controls
+ Handle small hand tools and power tools. Handling may be done unilaterally (one-handed) or bilaterally (two-handed) depending on size and shape of object and task being performed.
+ Need corrected vision to be aware of surroundings and location of items needed and perform various other job duties.
+ Need corrected hearing to identify conditions in the environment (i.e. forklift horns, fire alarms).
+ Need mental alertness to identify, avoid, or resolve safety hazards.
+ Ability to communicate with supervisors and co-workers.
+ Ability to wear designated personal protective equipment for the work assignment (i.e. safety glasses, protective gloves and sleeves, safety shoes, hearing protection, dust masks).
