    Description

    A Grinder Operator is responsible for operating grinding machines to shape, sharpen, or smooth precision parts. They set up, operate and maintain these machines while ensuring they are safe to use and in compliance with established safety standards and company policies. After grinding, the grinder operator inspects the work to ensure they meet specifications.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Operate and maintain grinder machinery from blueprints.

    • Determine product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be ground.

    • Determine grinding speeds, feed rates, holding fixtures, and grinding wheels to be used.

    • Remove metal by the application of abrasives which are bonded to form a rotating wheel.

    • Work with Manufacturing Engineer on program changes to the machine, when needed.

    • Perform quality checks on parts for accuracy according to blueprints.

    • Identify product defects and work with QC team.

    • Set up tools and machinery for individual projects.

    • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

    • Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

    • Maintain a professional, clean and safe work area.

    • Other related duties as assigned.

    • Ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds. Use mechanical lift if weight exceeds 40 pounds.

    • Machine shop.

    • Use of hearing protection, eye protection and safety shoes required. Hearing and eye protection provided. Safety shoes and prescription safety eyewear covered by reimbursement program.

    Requirements

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

     

    • Grinder Operator experience required.

    • Able to use measuring equipment such as Calipers, Micrometers, Indicators, etc.

    • Able to read and interpret charts, drawings and blueprints.

    • Knowledge of safety procedures relating to operating Grinding machinery and handling materials.

    • Ability to interpret, edit, and program efficiently, when required.

    • Must be able to follow directions and perform work accurately and thoroughly.

    • Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem.

    • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy.

    • Strong communication skills to work as part of a team.

    • Machinist tools required.

    • High School Diploma, or GED.

    Salary Description

    $22.00 to $27.00 per hour
