Description
Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a bioinformatician to curate and process raw data transforming it into meaningful insights. This role will require running and optimizing bioinformatics pipelines, curating datasets and collaborating with therapeutic, computational and IT partners to develop and implement innovative data solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for organizing and categorizing data, a curiosity to identify abnormalities, and a customer-focused approach.
As a member of the Computational Innovation organization, the candidate will work as a member of cross-functional project teams, contributing to or driving the discovery of First-in-Class or Breakthrough drugs. As a partner for Data Excellence, the candidate will directly impact foundational elements of drug discovery, including data management, database development, and pipeline optimization.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Support and optimize bioinformatics pipelines using Nextflow and other workflow management systems to support data processing and analysis.
• Perform data curation and help to ensure that our database systems are kept up to data and compliant
• Leverage robust database solutions, including both SQL and non-SQL databases, to efficiently manage and query large-scale biological datasets.
• Enhance computational biology tools and infrastructure to support functional genomics and sequencing technologies and support the translation of biological data into insights.
• Help educate and train Boehringer Ingelheim colleagues on key tools and platforms.
• Aide in departmental administration, scientific culture, and technical evaluation of in-licensing opportunities.
Requirements
• Master’s degree from an accredited institution with related scientific discipline (Computer Science, Genomics, Biostatistics or Bioinformatics preferred)
• The successful candidate will have experience with more than one of the following; analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS), functional genomics, statistics for big data analysis, or multi-omics data integration
• Good knowledge of existing bioinformatics databases and file formats
• In-depth understanding of computational methods for NGS analysis and the usage of public data resources required
• Demonstrated ability to produce well-designed and documented code
• Familiarity with computational biology tools and experience working with computational biologists to solve problems
• Ability to troubleshoot both individually and as part of a team
• Excellent oral and written skills with the ability to communicate in an open, transparent, timely and consistent manner
Additional Requirements:
• Experience in computational biology-related projects using omics data
• Demonstrated experience in genomics or related areas (eg proteomics) and the use of integrative computational biology approaches. Experience in more than one omics area, or structural bioinformatics is a plus.
• Customer oriented mindset
• Demonstrated expertise in Python, R or other languages, together with data visualization frameworks ( eg , ggplot2, matplotlib etc)
• Experience in database systems including SQL and non-SQL versions!
• Desire to learn basic statistics and ardent desire to apply them.
• A keen interest in continuous development, such as reading new papers, learning new techniques in machine learning for biological problems.
• A good team player mentality and good ability to explain complex topics to scientists from other subject areas.
Eligibility Requirements:
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
• Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
• Must be 18 years of age or older

Compensation Data
This position offers a base salary typically between $115,000 and $181,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance-based bonus and or other compensation elements.
