Job Duties: Care for sows and piglets from birthing through weaning. Tasks include farrowing assistance, newborn care, feeding, watering, daily husbandry, sanitation, and monitoring animal health under the guidance of the onsite veterinarian. Perform piglet processing and weaning activities. Apply graduate-level training to design and implement evidence-based farrowing and weaning protocols, analyze production and health data to improve outcomes, and train staff on biosecurity and animal welfare. All veterinary activities are performed by or under the direction of the onsite veterinarian. Maintain accurate barn logs and follow biosecurity protocols.
### Minimum Education Required
Master's Degree or Higher
A master's degree is required because the position applies graduate-level knowledge in swine reproductive physiology, neonatal immunity, disease prevention and epidemiology, and production data analysis to reduce pre-wean mortality and improve farrowing outcomes. Duties include developing and implementing evidence-based SOPs for farrowing and weaning under the direction of the onsite veterinarian, analyzing barn-level KPIs to adjust husbandry practices, training staff on biosecurity and welfare standards, and interpreting diagnostic results to inform non-veterinary husbandry actions. The worker will not perform acts that require a veterinary license. This qualification is consistent with business necessity and the specialized nature of the operation.
