    QUALIFICATIONS:

    (1) Graduation from an accredited College and a Master's degree in School Psychology or equivalent.

     

    (2) New York State Licensed Psychologist

     

    (3) Three (3) or more years' experience in providing psychological and educational testing, scoring and report writing to students with disabilities, preferred.

     

    (4) Three (3) or more years' experience in providing counseling and supportive mental health services to students with disabilities, preferred.

     

    (5) The ability to successfully complete a Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at the proficiency level defined for each job position as determined by St. Mary's School for the Deaf (SMSD). Must have or desire to learn and become proficient in American Sign Language (ASL).

     

    NOTE: The School may also require employees in this classification to complete successful training in behavior management programs including but not limited to TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) which will be provided by St. Mary's School for the Deaf.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Community Culture

     

    + Work with the entire school community to foster mindfulness and sustain a socially and emotionally safe environment

    + Conference with families to review reports and explain information in family-friendly language

    + Develop strong relationships with caregivers, staff, outside providers, and students to invest in positive school climate

    + Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support staff to support student achievement

     

    Crisis Intervention

     

    + Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and monitor progress for students in need of greater support with behavior management

    + Participate in and/or lead meetings with the on-campus Mental Health Team (MHT)

    + Respond to emergency situations as required

     

    Data Collection, Meeting Attendance, and Report Writing

     

    + Participate in and/or lead comprehensive student support team meetings to assist in determining which students require academic and/or social/emotional intervention, and what interventions would be appropriate, aligned with the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) system

    + Write intake and other reports, as required, for both in-house purposes and with respective Local Education Agencies (LEA's)

    + Attend all required meetings: new student intake; staff; departmental; District CPSE and CSE

    + Conduct assessments and observations of students in a variety of settings including but not limited to: classroom, Related Services sessions, less structured settings such as the cafeteria, and students' homes when applicable

     

    School and Mental Health Counseling

     

    + Provide effective counseling to school-aged students and support the students in achieving academic success

    + Meet with students for individual counseling sessions and case management of students school wide such as transition services and assisting families in receiving services within the community

    Special Education

    + Attend Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Preschool (CPSE) meetings as an active participant

    + Manage students' psychological and social history files, timeline requirements for testing, and Individualized Education Programs (IEP's) updates

    + Performs other duties as assigned

     

    Salary based on experience and the current Professional's Union contract step range
