    UPMC is looking for a full time Fleet Mechanic II to support our UPMC Pittsburgh garage. Minor travel to local hospitals & parking lots may be required.

     

    This position works daylight Monday-Friday, 7 am - 3 pm. Optional 4/10s once CDL with Passenger Endorsement have been obtained (in house training available). Weekends off!

    Purpose:

    The Fleet Mechanic II will diagnose, overhaul, adjust, and repair all series of motor truck and bus equipment including, but not limited to the following: Engines (gas and diesel), Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials/Power dividers, PTO systems, Starters/Alternators, Refrigeration systems, Air conditioning systems (including cold and hot units), Fan clutches, Engine electronics (gas/diesel), Power steering systems, and Steering gear box (manual and power).

    Responsibilities:

    + Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.

    + Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services

    + Road test vehicles when necessary

    + Perform duties with little or no supervision and in a timely and efficient manner

    + Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.

    + Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.

    + Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.

    + Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.

    + Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.

    + Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order

    + Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.

    + Maintain work area appearance and safety

    + Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.

    + Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.

    + Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.

    + Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units

    + A Mechanics tool set up to 1/2inch drive; typically including sockets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and other tools for various repair and maintenance jobs on vehicles required.

    + A mechanic with a minimum of six (6) years practical experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

    + A mechanic should have specialized training and experience/knowledge and understanding of theory and concept of major components (i.e. engines, transmissions, etc.)

    + Be proficient in the use of all tools of the trade (Welding and painting equipment, power tools and shop machinery).

    + Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required at time of hire or within 6 months of hire.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
