Position Summary
An Accounting Specialist performs various clerical and administrative tasks to support the accounting department. They assist with the preparation of reports and spreadsheets, as well as handle data entry, bookkeeping, and record keeping. Accounting Specialists may also assist with certain reconciliations and budget tracking. They work closely with accountants and finance professionals to ensure accurate and timely financial information and support the function to ensure efficient operation of the department. They also handle correspondence with the business and external customers, assist with project management, and coordinate meetings. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in MS Office software are typically required for this role.
Essential Responsibilities
• Compiles data to support financial reports.
• Creates and modifies documents and spreadsheets with MS Office tools.
• Records business transactions.
• Utilizes computer systems to run databases, generate requisitions, pay bills and order supplies.
• Performs project-based work, supports audits, and completes ad-hoc tasks as necessary.
• Provides support for mailings and various filings.
• Executes work under minimal supervision.
• Handles issues and problems and refers the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma, or General Education Diploma
• 2-4 years of experience in an accounting setting

Working & Environmental Conditions
Working Conditions
• Temperature controlled working environment. Some outside activities may be required.
• This position may travel out-of-town to attend training and meetings.
• Typical office environment: may experience minor discomfort from extensive use of a computer display and keyboard; travel between buildings on campus and between campuses.
Physical Requirements
• Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
• Sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time.
• Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
