    IT@JH Research IT/Research Computing is seeking a **_Communications Specialist_** to support the outreach, engagement, and information-sharing efforts of the high-performance computing (HPC) and AI infrastructure team. This individual will develop clear, accurate, and compelling communications that help faculty, students, and research staff understand and effectively use advanced computing resources. The Specialist will manage content for the team’s website, workshops, training sessions, and external communications, while also coordinating event logistics, scheduling, and promotional materials. Work includes writing technical and non-technical content, producing digital assets, and maintaining communication channels across the research community. Assignments are a combination of ongoing operational needs and project-based campaigns, with moderate independence under direction from Research Computing leadership. This individual will also work closely with the IT@JH Design team to ensure alignment with existing and future IT communication messaging, branding, style, and strategy. The role requires strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across teams and an ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible language for diverse audiences.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    + Serve as the primary writer and editor for printed materials related to the area, events, and activities.

    + Perform a variety of research, writing and digital production for communications vehicles.

    + Write new material or contribute to writing a variety of communication media (e.g., website, proposals, summary reports, fact sheets, newsletters, marketing materials, correspondence, brochures).

    + Conduct interviews and collect information to develop content for communication materials.

    + Select visual assets to accompany written work.

    + Coordinate, oversee, schedule, and make appropriate arrangements for production and distribution of communications materials. Serve as primary contact with vendors.

    + May participate and contribute to planning and identifying content, theme, message, and tone.

    + Implement project strategies and work plans as developed by project leadership and support team in communicating, coordinating, completing, and disseminating project deliverables; and tracking dissemination metrics.

    + May manage and maintain social media accounts, newsletters, and/or website content

    + Support the planning and execution of webinars and other external facing events.

    + Develop external communication materials for project promotion.

    + Participate in high-level project team meetings and conference calls, as requested by Communications leaders. As needed, support team in developing proposals or other documentation for new or continued funding and coordinating with internal and external partners for new funding

    + Communicate challenges, requirements, and deadlines to team and ensure project timelines and deliverables are met.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

    + Two years of related experience.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/ graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Technical Writing, Journalism, or a related field; advanced degree may substitute for experience.

    + Two plus years of experience in communications, writing, or marketing roles, preferably supporting technical, scientific, or academic programs.

    + Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts (e.g., HPC, AI, data workflows) into clear, accessible language for diverse audiences.

    + Experience maintaining and updating website content, event pages, and technical resource guides.

    + Comfortable coordinating logistics for workshops, training sessions, webinars, and outreach events, including scheduling support and promotion.

    + Website design (WordPress) and user experience skills.

    + Familiarity with digital communication tools such as content management systems, mailing platforms, social media management, and basic HTML.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office and at least working familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud.

    + Ability to collaborate effectively with technical staff, faculty, and research partners to gather accurate information and represent the team’s work.

    + Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to track deadlines and deliverables across multiple projects.

    Technical qualifications or specialized certifications

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

    + Adobe Creative Cloud.

    Starting Salary Range: $46,200 - $80,800 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)

    Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:30am-5:00pm
