    Responsibilities

    A hydro plant mechanic is a journeyman mechanic who repairs, maintains and upgrades all types of mechanical and associated equipment and facilities in a hydro generating station.

    Requirements

    + Plan and direct maintenance activities for hydro plant outages

    + Operate equipment

    + Arc and gas weld power plant components and perform specialized work as a welder

    + Repair turbines and bearing systems

    + Add or replace packing as required

    + Repair and maintain governor and lubrication oil systems

    + Repair and upgrade cooling water systems

    + Repair hydro conveyance systems

    + Perform machining, equipment alignment and precision work

    + Repair and upgrade turbine and generator auxiliary systems

    + Perform repair and maintenance of hydro plant facilities including repair and construction of roads, trails, bridges, mixing and pouring of concrete, etc.
