Location Description
Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products.
Responsibilities
**POSITION SUMMARY** **:** The Utility Technician/Mechanic is responsible maintaining all PMs on HVAC, RTUs, and chiller equipment as well as maintain the engine room and boiler equipment for the plant.
Experience with ammonia and HVAC certifications are a plus and recommended.
This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.

SUMMARY** **:
The Utilities Maintenance Operator L1 (UMOL1) provides both maintenance and reliability services within the plant, executing with excellence and assisting with water/gas/air systems asset health improvement efforts. The UMOL1 will ensure results while partnering with the plant maintenance team personnel, plant operational team, and all other plant support teams members for success. The UMOL1 focus responsibilities are assistance and executional excellence of facility water/gas/air systems safe operation and preventive and corrective maintenance programs. Other duties will include technical troubleshooting, assisting with equipment installation, adjustments, startups, and process improvement projects. They will assist and execute with excellence in preventive and corrective maintenance practices. Candidates must be a self-starter willing to assist in operational, maintenance, and process responsibilities and KPI results. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability. This role must be available to work scheduled work times, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Operate, monitor, service and repair equipment for steam, refrigeration, water, compressed air and HVAC systems
+ Perform rounds and keep logs of daily operations and for engine room, boiler room and refrigeration equipment
+ Test and monitor water samples for boiler and condenser towers
+ Maintenance and troubleshooting of ammonia refrigeration compressors, condensers, pumps, vessels / recirculatory, purges, evaporators / RMAU’s, heat exchangers, and control valves / isolation valves while using the Original Equipment Manufacture’s guidelines
+ Maintenance and troubleshooting of steam boilers, hot water heaters, HVAC systems and air compressors, general facility support equipment
+ Participates in the PSM Program
+ Promotes Safe working habits, Maintain good morale and positive attitude
+ Log time and material usage into SAP/SIGGA for PMs and corrective maintenance
+ Responsible for housekeeping of engine rooms, Boiler room, MCC rooms, shops, and all other work areas
+ Able to assist or perform PM’s using SOP’s, LOTO and P,I&D’s
+ Adheres to Quality work practices, follows GMP’s, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
+ Able to work overtime and holidays when needed
+ Responsible for training employees on relevant content
+ Participate with water/gas/air systems maintenance/operations team members and tasks to ensure personal safety, quality, delivery, and cost, are continuously being improved to achieve company objectives. Be an active member who contributes to the advancement of the MFI & ARM culture.
+ Learn and execute Precision Maintenance ® techniques ensuring procedural compliance and that job tolerances are met
+ Actively participate in critical water/gas/air systems training for maintenance/operations personnel
+ Actively participate in implementing quality assurance and reliability procedures for critical water/gas/air systems spares and parts
+ Actively participate in quality commissioning procedures for critical rebuilt or new water/gas/air systems equipment
+ Actively participate and assist craftsman during critical water/gas/air systems maintenance assignments
+ Learn and execute technical water/gas/air systems troubleshooting tasks while working with experienced personnel
+ Utilize MFI approved CMMS to manage, document, and support water/gas/air systems reliability reporting and decision making. This will be accomplished through the guidance of MFI ARM standards.
+ Keep accurate and up-to-date records (i.e., SAP data, regulatory documentation etc..).
+ Provides input for root cause analysis (RCA) and Reliability Centered Maintenance to create an environment of continuous asset reliability improvement.
+ Promote, and foster Michael Foods culture, values, and principles.
+ Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors. Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.

+ Always ensures required regulatory compliance.
+ Demonstrates mechanical abilities/Electrical troubleshooting skills
+ Background that includes, but not limited to boilers, air compressor equipment, understanding of plant utilities systems, equipment installation and startups
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
+ High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent
+ Associate's degree or two-year technical certificate, or experience which demonstrates technical aptitude preferred.
+ 1 year of experience in an industrial environment with an emphasis on steam or refrigeration preferred
+ Ability to read and understand mechanical, piping, and/or electrical schematics and blueprints including equipment specific diagrams preferred
+ Prior experience in SAP preferred.
+ Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in Ammonia Refrigeration
+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals and P&ID’s
+ PSM experience
+ Ability to align machinery within specified tolerances to satisfactory level
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers at all levels
+ Experience working with vendors and contractors
+ Self-motivated
+ RETA certification CARO, and/or CIRO preferred
+ Ammonia Operator Training Level I or II through recognized training school
+ Ability to interact with all levels of the organization
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
