    The USC School of Cinematic Arts is seeking an adjunct faculty member in the field of entertainment law. We are looking for a working professional with a primary position as an attorney with extensive experience at a law firm, studio, agency and/or management company to teach the course CNTV 428: Fundamentals of Entertainment Law and Deal-making. This course covers legal topics applicable to the entertainment industry. It will introduce students to aspects of securing rights and clearances of intellectual property and protecting content in all forms of media, providing a knowledge base of rules, laws, and guidelines that are unique to entertainment.

     

    Qualified applicants will be able to teach undergraduate students basic legal concepts essential for project development and completion. Applicants should be able to provide an in-depth learning experience that offers a thorough understanding of legal concepts as they relate to film projects and content development in corporate, entrepreneurial, and independent production settings.

     

    Candidates will be required to call upon contacts with backgrounds in legal and business affairs as they relate to entertainment law to foster a unique learning experience and to support lecture topics and the discussion of current events related to the entertainment industry. Prior teaching or guest lecturer experience at the university level is preferred.

    Knowledge of the following fields is also preferred:

    + Creative Producing, Talent Management, Line Producing, Production Management & Scheduling

     

    Minimum Education: Juris Doctor degree.

     

    Preferred Education: Juris Doctor degree.

     

    Minimum Experience: 5-7 years of experience as an attorney at a law firm, media company, and/or agency, specializing in entertainment law.

     

    Preferred Experience: 7+ years of experience as an attorney at a law firm, media company, and/or agency, specializing in entertainment law. Demonstrated teaching experience, ideally at the college level, but inclusive of professional and community seminars, workshops, and mentorships.

    Compensation:

    The core salary range for this position is $30 - $45 per hour. This is an adjunct 25% FTE position.

     

    When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

     

    USC reserves the “Adjunct” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year but, in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean.
