Role Overview
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is part of the Pilot Plant/Process Scale-Up team and primarily oversees the operations, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all building utility systems. Utility systems include but are not limited to low pressure steam supply/return, compressed air, building and lab air handling, water purification, and various cooling/heating water loops. The technician will be responsible for daily oversight of the utility systems during their shift while completing daily rounds, scheduled and emergency work orders, and preventative maintenance. The Technician will also be responsible for completing/helping to complete projects scheduled during their shift. This may include supervising subcontractors (plumbing, welding, roofing, electrical, and insulation). In addition to utility systems, the technician will be responsible for building related issues that arise during their shift or must be repaired during that time. This may include, but is not limited to, restroom facilities, lighting, HVAC, roofing, flooring, and plumbing, as required. The Facilities Maintenance Technician ensures that the building and utilities operate at the highest efficiencies. Secondarily, this role assists their colleagues in other duties and project related pilot plant tasks.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm, with flexibility to be on-call on weekends/holidays or for emergency situations after hours.
Responsibilities
The Responsibilities of the Facilities Maintenance Technician include but are not limited to the following support areas:
Daily Rounds
+ Daily observation of all utility machinery.
+ Daily recording of key operating parameters.
+ Frequent checks using automation and monitoring software to ensure systems are running properly.
Documentation
+ Maintain an inventory of spare parts. Stock inventory will include parts for facilities as well as pilot plant.
+ Develop the utility equipment preventative maintenance schedule.
+ Prepare and maintain with utility equipment SOPs and learning materials.
Completing Work Orders
+ Preventive Maintenance work orders will be scheduled on a regular basis for both utility and building systems. Technician will need to complete these and observe/report the condition of the equipment and schedule any necessary additional work.
+ Regular work orders will be scheduled as needed to complete repairs on both the building and the utility systems. These may be requested by the technician or other personnel. The technician will need to be able to communicate with those requesting work to ensure the work is completed to their satisfaction.
+ Emergency work orders will often be initiated and completed by the technician in response to a machine/system failure that needs immediate attention. The technician will be responsible for determining the root cause quickly and efficiently as well as forming an action plan to get the machine/system in working order.
Project Assistance
+ Assist pilot plant on an as needed basis for projects. Tasks include, but are not limited to equipment sanitizations, CIP, running the COP tank, putting away parts, and rebuilding sanitary valves.
Emergency Response
+ Perform as a leader during/after building power outages restoring building utilities as quickly as possible.
+ Provide guidance in the event of a utility failure.
+ Diagnose and repair building/utility systems quickly to restore operations.
Education and Training Requirements
+ Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working with building utility systems, including steam, HVAC, and electrical systems
+ Boiler Operator certification is preferred. If not currently held, Daisy Brand will sponsor this certification upon hire.
+ Strong working knowledge of electrical controls, with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose system issues
+ Experience maintaining, rebuilding, and replacing mechanical components such as pumps, motors, VFDs, valves, and bearings
+ Demonstrated understanding of utility equipment, including boilers, air compressors, water systems (including reverse osmosis), and electrical distribution systems
+ Proficient in technical documentation and project management tools, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Project
+ Strong communication skills with a professional demeanor and the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external contractors
