    Description

    As Sr. Manager, Operations Engineering Management for WWGS, you will be responsible for defining and delivering complex engineering solutions that transform the in-store labor design and standards that span Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh, and emerging store formats. This role requires someone who can combine deep industrial engineering expertise with practical retail labor management experience, driving workforce optimization initiatives that directly enhance grocery store operations while maintaining Amazon's high standards for customer experience and operational excellence. This leader manages a team of labor engineers ensuring they are enabled to deliver both independent and cross-function projects to drive the objectives of the team forward.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Workforce Planning & Labor Optimization: Develop labor tools, models, and standards to support forecasting of scheduled hours and staffing requirements and calculating estimated labor costs across retail operations

    • Labor Analytics & Performance Management: Provide performance feedback to retail operations on workforce investments, measuring quality, service, and budget metrics to identify patterns, trends, and improvement opportunities

    • Cross-Functional Labor Strategy: Partner with Merchandising, Supply Chain, Retail, Food Safety, and other stakeholders to develop tactics that best leverage workforce and labor spend

    • Industrial Engineering Methods: Drive process improvement methodologies, operational excellence principles, and design systems that optimize labor productivity while maintaining service quality

    • Labor Standards Development: Develop, manage, and maintain labor standards and workforce planning tools that can be applied across multiple retail formats and locations

    • Drive program reviews up to VP level, presenting complex retail workforce design decisions and trade-offs to senior WWGS leadership

    • Lead a team of workforce engineers supporting multiple banners and new formats across WWGS

    Basic Qualifications

    - 7+ years of team management experience

     

    - Experience working cross-functionally and driving decision making among stakeholders with competing goals

     

    - Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline

     

    - 8-10 years of relevant engineering experience with significant focus on labor engineering, workforce optimization, and retail operations

     

    - 5+ years of leadership experience in industrial engineering roles, preferably with retail operations or labor management systems experience

     

    - Labor Strategy Translation: Ability to translate strategic workforce objectives into clear, tangible actions at store, area, and network levels, understanding how labor decisions impact operational effectiveness, resources, and costs

     

    - Business Impact Assessment: Understanding of how labor processes and operating models impact company business and financial performance, particularly in retail grocery environments

     

    - Risk Management: Expertise in identifying risks and threats in current and emerging operational strategies and understanding their impact on workforce effectiveness and costs

     

    - Retail Labor Ecosystem: Deep understanding of creating safe, productive labor ecosystems that support delivery of operational excellence in grocery retail environments

     

    - Multi-Format Workforce Planning: Experience developing workforce strategies that can adapt across diverse grocery formats (Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods Market, etc.)

     

    - Labor Cost Optimization: Proven track record in optimizing labor spend while maintaining customer service standards and operational efficiency in high-volume retail environments

     

    - Change Management: Ability to drive team, store, and regional understanding and acceptance of workforce planning as a key enabler of store performance and continual improvement while building trust and consensus in the model across stakeholders

     

    - Proven ability to scale technology solutions across multiple retail locations and formats

     

    - Identify opportunities to improve customer experience through data-driven insights, including checkout optimization and improved inventory replenishment influenced by item level holding power

     

    - Develop standards and processes that enable consistent execution across diverse retail store formats while maintaining flexibility to support unique attributes

    Preferred Qualifications

    - Deep understanding of retail operations, store systems, and grocery industry challenges

     

    - Experience with retail technology systems including POS, inventory management, supply chain, and customer experience platforms

     

    - Knowledge of grocery-specific requirements including food safety systems, temperature monitoring, and perishable goods handling

     

    - Familiarity with omnichannel retail strategies and integration between physical and digital grocery experiences

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $225,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
