    About the Role…

     

    As the Technical Services Manager you will engage the supply chain organization by leading complex multi-departmental production loss & yield improvement projects, plant trials (raw materials, finished goods and processing) and providing technical support for new products produced at the Amsterdam facility. This will require the use of good project management and communication skills. This role will also help identify areas of opportunity for yield, cost and efficiency improvements. Once opportunities are identified the Tech Services Manager will help the team implement changes on the production floor.

     

    This role will be a key member of the Change Management team assisting with cross-functional projects. The Tech Services Manager will also be responsible for helping to manage the tech services team, evaluating collected data, and renovating products for margin improvements. You will work collaboratively with the R&D/Quality/Operations/Maintenance teams on research projects such as sensory evaluation, new packaging, new processing equipment, new ingredient formats, shelf-life testing, new testing requirements or any other research projects as required.

    The Technical Services Team is diverse in knowledge and experience and are responsible for ensuring that Beech-Nut’s products meet the highest standards for food safety and quality. This team takes pride in, and responsibility in partnering with our Research & Development, Strategic Sourcing, Operations and Quality Assurance Teams to ensure all raw materials and processes meet our rigorous testing standards and expectations. This is a hands-on, collaborative team that is energetic and passionate about making sure we continue to do what we do best - making high quality, safe, and nutritious foods for babies and toddlers!

     

    About the Work Environment…

     

    The position is located at the Amsterdam, New York LEED® certified production facility. This position will be required to work in an environment that requires hairnet, beard cover, safety glasses, hearing protection and lab coat part-time. Restrictions include wearing of jewelry, nail polish and acrylic nails. Other personal protection equipment may be required for certain tasks.

    What You’ll Do…

     

    + Work collaboratively with other departments such as engineering, operations, R&D, quality on research projects to help identify new processes, equipment, ingredient formats, packaging formats and any other changes that could improve product quality, safety, yield or costs.

    + Implement changes necessary to improve losses and yields including but not limited to gathering and reviewing data, coordinating and leading trials, creating and conducting training for operators, updating or writing SOPs and creating trial reports.

    + Support new product innovation by leading new jar development projects as required by Commercial team.

    + Responsible for leading production trials in the Amsterdam facility by implementing standard processes and workflows to raw material, formula change, or processing change trials and tests. This may require working directly on the production lines and may occur at any time during production hours

    + Update and manage Amsterdam yield standards for BOMs by ingredient format. Review for accuracy and identify opportunities for improvement.

    + Responsible for updating and reviewing technical documentation such as formulas, labelling information, process instructions, BOMS and specifications in our ERP and QMS systems.

    + Provide technical support to plant operations team as needed for running of Beech-Nut and Co-Man products.

    + Support sustainability initiatives such as packaging, ingredients, or formula changes. That results in reduction in CO2 and/or water usage.

    + Member of the Change Management, Food Safety & Plant Safety teams.

    + Responsible for ensuring management of test kitchen including formulas, sample creation, testing and maintenance.

    + Manage sensory evaluation and shelf-life testing programs.

    What You’ll Need…

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field; or equivalent experience.

    + 5+ years of quality assurance, research & development or operations in food manufacturing.

    + Experience with low acid can foods (LACF), acidified and hot-fill processing.

    + Experience with USDA meat requirements

    + Experience with FDA and FSMA requirements

    + Supervisory experience with proven ability to coach and develop teams.

    + Experience in high-speed manufacturing and union environment

    + Knowledge of food safety, regulations, GMP’s, and Thermal processing preferred

    + Training in Better Processing School and PCQI preferred.

    Pay: The annual base salary range for this onsite role is $100,000 – 120,000. This is a salaried exempt position.
