Position Description:
The IT Project Manager will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of technology and business change initiatives within a life sciences / pharmaceutical environment. This role will oversee project planning, execution, governance, and stakeholder management across functions such as R&D, clinical, regulatory, quality, and commercial, with a strong emphasis on Agile delivery practices.
This position can be performed from the Boston, MA CGI office with weekly hybrid travel to the Seaport, MA client office.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Project Planning & Delivery
. Manage the full project lifecycle from initiation through closure for medium-to-large IT and business projects.
. Define and maintain project scope, objectives, success criteria, timelines, and budgets.
. Develop and manage integrated project plans, RAID logs, resource plans, and financial forecasts.
. Coordinate cross-functional teams (business, IT, QA, security, vendors) to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
. Ensure alignment with internal PMO standards, SDLC / CSV processes, and governance frameworks.
Requirements & Business Process Management
. Lead requirements gathering through interviews, workshops, and other elicitation techniques.
. Translate business needs into epics, features, and user stories, maintaining a prioritized backlog.
. Facilitate design and business process improvement workshops, challenging current-state where appropriate.
. Document current- and future-state processes, workflows, and data flows with attention to GxP and regulatory implications.
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance
. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across R&D, clinical, medical, regulatory, commercial, and corporate functions.
. Manage expectations and drive alignment on scope, priorities, risks, and dependencies.
. Prepare and deliver clear, executive-ready status reports, dashboards, and steering committee materials.
. Facilitate governance forums, issue resolution, and decision-making in line with established governance structures.
Risk, Issue, Dependency & Vendor Management
. Proactively identify, assess, and manage risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies, ensuring appropriate mitigation plans.
. Oversee third-party vendors and implementation partners, ensuring adherence to contracts, SLAs, and project objectives.
. Support RFI/RFP processes, including requirements definition, vendor evaluation, solution demos, and SOW/contract review.
Agile Delivery & Ways of Working
. Lead or support Agile and hybrid delivery models, selecting the appropriate approach based on project context.
. Drive effective use of Agile frameworks (e.g., Scrum, Kanban; exposure to SAFe or similar scaling frameworks is a plus).
. Plan and facilitate Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
. Utilize JIRA (and related tools such as Confluence) for backlog management, sprint tracking, and reporting.
. Analyze and report on capacity, velocity, and throughput to support forecasting and continuous improvement.
. Champion continuous improvement of delivery practices, tools, and templates across teams.
Compliance, Quality & Change Management
. Ensure project deliverables and documentation are audit-ready and compliant with relevant regulations (e.g., GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, data privacy).
. Collaborate with Quality, IT Security, and Compliance teams to ensure appropriate validation and cybersecurity controls.
. Support organizational change management activities including communication, training, and user adoption.
. Coordinate go-live planning, hypercare support, and transition to operations, ensuring smooth handover to support teams.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
. Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
. 8+ years of IT project management experience delivering technology and/or business change initiatives.
. 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or broader life sciences environments.
. Demonstrated experience managing projects in one or more of the following areas:
o Clinical systems (eClinical, EDC, CTMS, eTMF)
o R&D / laboratory / translational research solutions
o Pharmacovigilance / safety systems
o Regulatory, Quality, or Medical Affairs platforms
o Commercial, CRM, patient support, or data and analytics solutions
. Proven experience with Agile delivery, including leading or closely supporting Scrum or Kanban teams.
. Hands-on experience with JIRA and standard project management tools (e.g., MS Project or Smartsheet, Excel, PowerPoint).
. Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging senior leadership.
Preferred:
. Advanced degree (e.g., MS, MBA) in a relevant field.
. Professional certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, SAFe, CSM, or PMI-ACP.
. Experience with GxP / validated systems and familiarity with 21 CFR Part 11 and data privacy requirements.
. Prior experience in oncology, rare diseases, or high-growth biopharma environments.
. Exposure to portfolio, program, and capacity planning across multiple concurrent initiatives.
Other Information:
CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $83,900.00 - $146,800.00.
