Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our innovative team. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing problems and developing designs to solve them. You will design tooling, test equipment, and machinery related to both production and developmental products, while ensuring all designs meet specifications and criteria.
Responsibilities
+ Analyze problems and develop solutions through design.
+ Develop specifications, design criteria, and drawings for tooling, test equipment, and machinery.
+ Collaborate with other engineers and professionals to enhance project outcomes.
+ Support field crews to ensure final installation meets design and specifications.
+ Plan, conduct, and technically direct projects, coordinating efforts of engineers and technical support staff.
+ Work within budget constraints to deliver safe and efficient products on time.
+ Collaborate with vendors to produce tooling and associated hardware.
+ Integrate hardware into production and research/development cycles.
+ Work with customers and technical personnel to ensure production requirements are met.
+ Set up prototype equipment and test theories/designs developed.
+ Discuss progress and findings at monthly technical review meetings, making necessary modifications.
+ Perform specialized programming, design, or analysis tasks under indirect supervision.
+ Follow detailed instructions for working plans and methods.
+ Ensure compliance with government regulations to maintain product and company reputation.
+ Formulate opinions, decisions, and performance tasks as specified in work statements.
+ Apply engineering experience to functions such as systems integration, configuration management, quality assurance, testing, and analysis.
+ Independently perform high-level assessment and review functions, providing definitive written and oral results/recommendations.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in design, mechanical, and mechanical design concepts.
+ Experience with AutoCAD, CAD, GD&T, conveyor systems, roller beds, skillet conveyors.
+ Specialization in automotive conveyor systems.
+ Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SW, or Catia.
+ Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
+ Minimum of 5 years of experience.
+ Proven track record in automotive and conveyance markets.
+ Experience integrating mechanical designs into production or test environments.
+ Ability to work with controls engineers to define appropriate controls design.
+ Strong creativity, vision, and problem-solving skills.
+ Knowledge of blueprints reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
+ Advanced mathematical skills and the ability to apply statistics to problem-solving.
+ Firm grasp of engineering concepts and experience designing mechanical systems.
+ Exceptional technical, problem-solving skills, and reasoning ability.
+ Effective communication skills.
+ Self-motivation and team collaboration.
+ Quality focus and strong interpersonal skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Relevant certifications, registrations, and licenses may be required.
+ Basic knowledge and experience working with controls engineers.
+ Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
+ Must be self-motivated and a great team worker.
+ Expect 50% travel.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr.
