EchoStar is seeking an innovative and strategic Director of Data Platforms and Insights to lead the next evolution of our data infrastructure and business intelligence ecosystem. This leader will drive the transformation of data platforms by embedding AI capabilities to both enhance internal processes (e.g., automation and optimization of workflows) and enable advanced, AI-driven analytics delivery. The Director will manage teams responsible for platform innovation, production stability, and user-centric data services, enabling seamless access to high-quality, virtualized data for business analysts, data analysts, data scientists, and decision-makers.

The Director will report to the Vice President of Data/AI Products and Monetization and will lead an organization of six squads focused on delivering projects, maintaining operations, and improving the data experience across the enterprise.

While direct experience with AI-driven tools (e.g., code generation, pipeline optimization) is preferred, we recognize that this is an emerging field. Therefore, candidates who have experience with modern cloud platforms, automation frameworks, and data process optimization—and who demonstrate a willingness to learn and adopt AI-driven innovations—are strongly encouraged to apply.

    Key Responsibilities:

+ Lead and manage the Data Platforms and Insights organization, including both development and operations teams

+ Define and execute a 2025 strategy to revolutionize the data-user experience, ensuring rapid discovery of high-quality, trusted data assets

+ Leverage AI-driven tools to automate data processes (e.g., code generation, ETL pipeline creation, data transformation, and refactoring) using platforms like Databricks, Git, and other modern data engineering tools

+ Oversee platform enhancements to enable virtualized, metadata-rich data access, reducing reliance on local data copies and manual interventions

+ Champion the use of AI-powered tools for business intelligence, including Tableau Plus for dashboard automation, data visualization, and distribution

+ Manage four development squads delivering cross-functional data and insights projects, aligned with business unit priorities and using a capacity-based agile model

+ Oversee two production operations squads responsible for managing production jobs, addressing performance issues, and maintaining platform stability through automated issue resolution and optimization strategies

+ Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring that teams are skilled in modern AI, cloud, and data technologies

+ Collaborate with business units, data scientists, and analysts to understand evolving data needs and align data services with strategic priorities

+ Advocate for data governance and stewardship, enabling trusted access to data by ensuring visibility into metadata, ownership, quality, and lineage

+ Represent the Data Platforms and Insights function in enterprise initiatives to drive data-driven decision-making and automation through AI technologies

+ Recruit, mentor, and develop team members to stay ahead of emerging trends in AI, data engineering, business intelligence, and cloud platforms

+ Encourage the exploration and adoption of AI-driven technologies to streamline development and operations, improving the overall productivity of data teams and end-users

+ Foster an innovation mindset, focusing on automation, process optimization, and the use of new tools to improve team efficiency and business outcomes

+ Build successful, self-motivated, and process driven teams

    Skills, Experience and Requirements

    Education and Experience:

+ Bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field

+ Proven experience leading data platform and business intelligence organizations with a focus on AI-driven innovation or automation-driven process improvements

+ Experience implementing and optimizing virtualized data platforms with rich metadata, data lineage, and quality measures

+ Experience with agile methodologies, emphasizing continuous delivery and iterative improvements

    Skills and Qualifications:

+ Strong knowledge of modern data warehouse technologies, including Databricks, Snowflake, AWS services, and other cloud platforms

+ Demonstrated success in enhancing the data-user experience by reducing bottlenecks in data access and improving data discovery and trust

+ Strong understanding of data visualization and reporting platforms, particularly Tableau/Tableau Plus and similar business intelligence tools

+ Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives in a fast-paced environment

    Nice To Haves:

+ Experience with data platforms like AWS Redshift, AWS Glue, Lake Formation, and Databricks Delta

+ Familiarity with data ingestion and data processing technologies, such as Spark, Python, SQL, and Apache Hadoop
