OPPD¿s Operational Technology Division is seeking a technically skilled, analytically minded, and passionate Software Systems Engineer to help drive the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our Energy Management System (EMS). As a Software Systems Engineer, you¿ll report to the Manager of EMS OT Applications and collaborate with a dynamic team of Computer and Electrical Engineers. You¿ll provide critical support for the tools used by Grid Operations and Energy Marketing & Trading, ensuring optimal performance and seamless integration across systems.
Department Overview
The Operational Technology Division delivers cutting-edge engineering solutions that enhance the reliability of OPPD¿s Transmission and Distribution systems. Our work supports the strategic growth of generation facilities, the modernization of the transmission grid, and the advancement of smart grid technologies. The EMS team plays a vital role in supporting real-time operations across Transmission, Distribution, and Generation by leveraging state-of-the-art tools and technologies to solve complex challenges.
Key Responsibilities
+ Provide advanced technical support and conduct in-depth engineering analysis to ensure optimal performance of EMS applications and infrastructure
+ Partner with cross-functional teams¿including Substation, System Protection, Telecom, IT, and Grid OT¿to drive strategic, high-impact initiatives
+ Maintain and enhance internal and external system interfaces
+ Optimize EMS performance and ensure system reliability
Technical Duties
+ Support real-time operations by managing and maintaining critical analysis tools such as state estimator, contingency analysis, and power flow models
+ Optimize and update EMS models, databases, and subsystems to ensure data integrity and operational continuity
+ Develop custom engineering solutions tailored to end-user needs
+ Diagnose and resolve issues across EMS environments
+ Coordinate field and project work with EMS and ADMS engineers
+ Configure and maintain SCADA, FEP, ICCP and network model databases
+ Enhance operator situational awareness through alarm development and customization
Qualifications
Required:
+ · Bachelor¿s degree, preferably in computer science or related field, or a combination of education and work
+ experience that provides the necessary skills to perform the essential job functions.
+ · Two (2) years of experience in a similar position.
+ · Experience in installation, configuring and integrating systems.
+ · Experience in software development and coding.
+ · Strong knowledge of at least one development language.
+ · Strong knowledge of personal computer software and hardware, particularly Windows 10, Microsoft Outlook,
+ Microsoft Office product suite, Active Directory and Exchange.
+ · Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills are required, including the ability to communicate clearly and
+ professionally, both verbally and in writing.
+ · Must be able to work independently and collaboratively with minimum supervision. Requires exceptional
+ organizational skills, problem solving skills, and flexibility in changing priorities.
+ · Be a team player with the ability to share knowledge and develop colleagues for the overall benefit of the team and
+ organization.
Desired:
+ · Familiar with tools and platforms such as Jira GIT, Jenkins, Ansible.
+ · Familiar with C#, C++, Java, Groovy, PLSQL, PowerShell, PeopleCode, JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS.
+ · Familiar with Middleware (ex. Mulesoft, NextAxiom, Weblogic).
+ · Familiar with Linux or Windows servers.
