    Summary

    Environmental Scientist Senior

     

    Utilizes advanced knowledge of the natural sciences and experience gained through formal education and experience in a related field, to lead projects and programs that protect the environment. Interprets regulatory requirements, identifies problems and provides complex solutions that minimize hazards to the health of the environment and the population. Expected to become proficient in all environmental programs such as air quality, water quality, and waste management and lead all field work activities. Will be required to obtain HAZWOPER, RCRA, and DOT Shipper qualifications.

     

    Environmental Consultant

     

    Under limited direction, develops solutions to a variety of complex environmental projects and studies, ensuring that solutions are consistent with all applicable laws and business unit objectives.

     

    Reviews regulations and implements into business unit or plant with an innovative and cost-effective approach.

     

    Serves as technical resource to department in the areas of water quality, waste management, or environmental law.

     

    Serves as Consultant to management, which may include Executive Management, on major environmental matters pertaining to policies, plans and objectives.

     

    Additionally, expected to perform all duties as an Environmental Scientist Senior while acting as a mentor to less experienced team members.

     

    Will be required to obtain HAZWOPER, RCRA, and DOT Shipper qualifications.

     

    This role does require periodic field work.

    Minimum Requirements

    Environmental Scientist Senior

     

    Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Earth Science or related science (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Hydrology) or other job-related field from an accredited college or university AND four years directly-related experience in Environmental (with at least two years’ experience in Air, Water or Waste management systems) OR Master's degree in Science-related field AND two years experience in Environmental-related position.

     

    In lieu of Bachelor's Degree, eight years of college coursework and experience.

     

    This role requires high proficiency in public speaking, reading comprehension and record keeping.

     

    Note: Degrees not considered related are Sustainability, Climate Change, or Political Science. Military experience in Environmental Protection, Environmental Hazardous Waste or Spill Response, Waste Management, or Regulation Compliance will be considered as Environmental experience.

     

    Environmental Consultant

     

    Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Earth Science or related science (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Hydrology) or other job-related field AND four years of directly related Environment experience OR Bachelor's Degree in related field AND six years of directly related Environment experience.

     

    This role requires high proficiency in public speaking, reading comprehension and record keeping.

     

    Two years concentrated experience in Air, Water or Waste management systems.

     

    Proven experience in compliance and self-assessments, inspections, audits, root cause and corrective actions.

     

    Project management experience leading a study or project.

     

    Advanced database and spreadsheet skills (queries, forms, reports, and formulas).

     

    Knowledge of the ISO 14001 quality standards and experience with the development, operation, and maintenance of Environmental Management Systems.

     

    Note: Degrees not considered related are Sustainability, Climate Change, or Political Science. Military experience in Environmental Protection, Environmental Hazardous Waste or Spill Response, Waste Management, or Regulation Compliance will be considered as Environmental experience.

     

    Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications for the Senior and the Consultant

     

    HAZWOPER, RCRA, and DOT Shipper qualifications

     

    Experience with nuclear power, regulation interpretation, or environmental permitting

    Major Accountabilities

    + Conducts or leads advanced scientific studies to support the safe and efficient operation of business units or plants within the organization.

    + Monitors the operations of facilities for environmental compliance and identifies potential non-compliance issues.

    + Regularly reviews and interprets the most complex analytical data to determine clean up levels on complex projects.

    + Leads scientific and or cause investigations which includes identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends and patterns generally using established precedents and standards, and develops and recommends solutions to management to remedy negative trends.

    + Operates, maintains and monitors operating systems, (e.g., water treatment and waste disposal) and or air quality systems to ensure compliance with established guidelines.

    + Develops and oversees the use of appropriate sampling and monitoring procedures and guidelines.

    + Prepares and revises technical documents for internal and external audit groups.

    + Participate in the evaluation and review of proposed and existing codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines to determine the impact on programs and facility modifications.

    + May, on occasion, interface directly with regulatory agencies on questions of permit implementation and regulatory interpretation.

    + Interfaces with multiple internal departments to evaluate the impact of permits/regulations, and to coordinate comments on draft documents.

    + Works on ecological screening studies for potential sites.

    + Provides technical guidance in interpreting and monitoring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry guidelines.

    + Reviews technical documents to ensure their accuracy and completeness.

    + Keeps current on the changes developing in the regulations and legislation and provide input to business or organizations on impact of such regulations

    + Develops documents such as permit applications and regulatory submittals.

    + Provides leadership to less experienced Scientists and to Specialists.

    + May act as lead person or technical expert on small to medium projects.

    + Develop and deliver environmental training to all levels of the organization.

    + Works on ecological screening studies for potential sites.

    + Employees are expected to reside in Arizona.

    + Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.

    + Role types are subject to change based on business need.

     

    Any PVGS employees may be called upon for random Fitness for Duty (FFD) testing during scheduled working hours. Employees, if off-site, must report to FFD at Palo Verde as soon as reasonably practicable, but no more than 120 minutes after being notified. Employees who are onsite when notified will have no more than 60 minutes to report after being notified.
