Instructor Career Plus High School (CPH) Program
Employment Terms : This job is a full time , benefited Exempt/Professional position in the Adult Education Division that reports to the Coordinator – Career Plus High School Program. This position will report to the Lawrenceville Campus
The Adult Education Department at Gwinnett Technical College is currently accepting applications for a full-time instructor for our CPH program. This individual will facilitate in-person and online instruction in all of the following academic areas: English, Social Studies, Math, Science, and Health. Students in this program are seeking a credit-based high school diploma.
Salary – $54,080
Minimum Qualifications: (Job Code 10214)
Bachelor’s degree in education, or a closely related field, AND two years of in-person and online teaching or instructional delivery experience in an educational setting. This position requires exceptional customer service, multi-tasking, critical thinking, and verbal/written communication skills. Microsoft Word and Excel experience are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree or above, preferably with a focus on education; Two years teaching experience. Candidates must have an in-depth knowledge of the subject(s) and possess a strong interest in teaching. Candidates must be proficient in high school level English, Social Studies, Math, Science and Health.
Preference will be given to individuals who have worked in Adult Education.
Specific abilities include:
Facilitating & Teaching Online High School Curriculum Content:
• Deliver and facilitate high school curriculum content through approved online platforms in alignment with Career Plus High School Diploma (CPH) program standards.
• Provide clear instruction, explanations, and guidance to ensure student comprehension of high school subject matter in an online environment.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning styles and support students with varying levels of academic preparedness.
• Incorporate interactive activities, digital tools, and formative assessments to enhance student engagement and mastery of content.
Skills: Online teaching proficiency, instructional design, adaptability, classroom management in virtual settings, effective digital communication, subject matter expertise, student engagement strategies.
Record Keeping:
• Maintain accurate records of student high school course attendance in GALIS as per CPH guidelines.
• Keep detailed records of student progress, grades, and other relevant information, and regularly update the CPH coordinator.
Skills: Attention to detail, time management, data entry proficiency, familiarity with FERPA and student privacy regulations, ability to manage digital and physical records efficiently.
Content Management:
• Ensure all enrolled students have seamless access to college accounts, including Blackboard, for course participation.
• Facilitate access to course materials and necessary supplies (e.g., calculators, handouts, novels, etc.) essential for effective learning.
Skills: Curriculum planning, proficiency with learning management systems (LMS), resource organization, instructional material preparation, digital literacy.
Assessment:
• Coordinate and oversee proctored final exams and tests for high school courses.
• Evaluate student work, including papers, projects, tests, and other assessments, and assign final grades in accordance with established criteria.
Skills: Assessment design, grading with rubrics, academic integrity enforcement, analytical thinking, providing fair and consistent evaluations.
Feedback:
• Monitor student attendance and proactively notify students falling behind on deadlines.
• Provide prompt and constructive feedback to students, addressing questions and comments posted online in a timely manner.
Skills: Clear communication, responsiveness, use of digital communication tools (email, discussion boards), mentoring, motivational support, ability to track and address academic performance trends.
Support & Case Management:
• Offer tutoring or additional instruction to students as required to enhance learning outcomes.
• Refer students to online support services for tutoring, advising, library resources, and any other necessary assistance.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned dual enrollment students, monitoring academic progress and overall well-being.
• Identify barriers to student success (academic, personal, or logistical) and collaborate with school counselors, parents/guardians, and college staff to resolve issues.
• Conduct regular check-ins with students to review progress, set academic goals, and provide encouragement.
• Maintain detailed case notes to document interventions, communications, and student outcomes.
Skills: Student-centered approach, adaptability, academic coaching, collaboration with student services, case management, problem-solving, student advocacy, empathy, confidentiality, awareness of diverse learning needs, cultural competency.
Technology Equipment:
• Ensure that all students have access to suitable technology, either through loaner laptops or on-campus computer labs, to effectively complete coursework.
Skills: Troubleshooting basic tech issues, familiarity with institutional IT support procedures, equity awareness in digital access, ability to instruct students in using educational software and platforms.
