Job Summary: Under supervision, assists with the planning, development and implementation of a communications program, and/or public relations plan for an assigned agency, department, facility or function.
Job Specific Duties:
Under broad supervision, this position will assist the Assistant Director in ensuring internal/external brand consistency across the department, maintain a consistent virtual public engagement platform and contribute to major communications and public relations activities within the Office of Strategic Communications. Develop and implement communications and marketing strategies to educate the public about Georgia DOT's programs and projects regardless of phase. Project management directing projects and campaigns for community and public awareness programs and executing a community relations program. Assist in development of presentations (PowerPoint, etc.), general website updates, internal public meeting coordination, internal/external brand consistency and social media campaigns. Collaborate with internal teams to create a consistent virtual public engagement platform and contribute to major communications and public relations activities within the Office of Strategic Communications. Plans and coordinates special events for an assigned agency, department, facility or function. May assist in the management of projects/campaigns and program plans for public outreach websites, social media and community outreach. Develop, monitor and maintain communication materials and presentations for internal and external audiences ensuring adherence to the brand.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement comprehensive public engagement and outreach plans, including communication strategies for specific projects and ongoing messaging
• Act as the liaison between the Office of Strategic Communications and project teams in coordinating public engagement activities, and identifying needed information, resources and updates
• Collaborate with project teams to create, prepare and deploy project information such as content, graphics, documents and media for use on websites, social media and other digital platforms
• Work with project teams to ensure all public engagement materials adhere to agency quality and brand standards
• Be a resource that provides strategic communications guidance and assistance for public engagement activities
• Collaborate with project teams to share timely project updates with the public using agency communications platform
• Plan and support public engagement initiatives, including public information open houses, town halls, and events
• Maintain internal and external communications branding standards and guidelines throughout the department
• Collaborate internally to ensure consistency of brand, tone and message
• Gather internal/external feedback to improve communication and engagement efforts seeking to improve user experience
• Work with supervisor to implement consistent public involvement strategies and tactics for projects and programs regardless of decision-making phase
• Assist supervisor with the evaluation of communication and outreach strategies specifically related to department public involvement efforts through data tracking and analysis
• Contribute creative and innovative ideas for streamlining the internal/external public involvement process
• Work with supervisor to implement marketing and public relations strategies for educational campaigns that highlight the decision-making process for projects and programs regardless of phase
State Entry Qualifications:
Highschool diploma/GED and three (3) years of experience of communications or job-related experience.
Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training or certifications that provide the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year
Agency Specific Qualifications:
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited private or public postsecondary institution.
• Five years of communications, public relations and/or marketing experience, with a substantial amount of experience executing community relations outreach programs and excellent writing.
• Demonstrated professional experience in writing, event planning and developing community outreach campaigns.
• Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
• Proficient in social media strategy and platforms.
• Demonstrated skills with collaboration and inspiration guiding others toward proper engagement process and brand standards guidance
• Demonstrated ability to encourage team building, facilitate cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity toward successful brand adherence
• Good interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to relate well to others from varied backgrounds and different situations.
• Committed to providing quality customer service.
• Expresses ideas and facts to individuals or groups effectively orally and in writing.
• Pays close attention to detail and ensures accuracy of work
+ Collaboration & Teamwork: Works effectively with other professionals like public relations specialists, project managers and others across various departments, to ensure a comprehensive and consistent participation process
• Project & Time Management: Manages multiple initiatives simultaneously, meeting deadlines while maintaining quality
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen to and follow instructions, collaborate with team members, and present ideas
• Detail-oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of an organization
• Adaptability and flexibility in a changing environment
• Ongoing drive to learn new techniques and trends in digital storytelling, design, technology, and social media
Agency PREFFERED Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and graphic design software preferred
• Creative thinking with a strategic mindset
• Proficient in web content management and content management systems (CMS).
