This position supports the R2 Diagnostic Laboratory Center which provides patient care service for over 4,000 patients each week.

On any given day, the 200+ Diagnostic Laboratory Services team members collect blood specimen to support patient care for 1500 to 2000 ambulatory patients, and 500 to 600 inpatients, 90% of the time, the Ambulatory Lab Visit is completed in less than 20 minutes from check in to band aid on the arm, and 90% of the time, inpatient AM lab collections are completed by 8AM.

The team works to keep our patients and staff safe; provide outstanding patient experience; treat our patients and each other with respect and kindness; and strive to provide patient care in a professional and courteous manner.

Ideal candidate will have a minimum of three months phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory and venipuncture skills.

The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 6am - 2:30pm with rotating weekends.

The hourly rate for this position is $18.27 - $22.84 - $27.40 based on experience.

Performs phlebotomy procedures in a competent manner

- Demonstrates competency via direct observation and assessment for the following phlebotomy procedures:

- Venipuncture

- Blood Culture Collection for Bottle

- Ambulatory Isolation procedure

- Age Specific Skills

- Completes assignment without undue reliance on others.

- Achieves productivity standard of the section.

- Attends continuing educational programs.

- Assists with the training of new hires and students

Adheres to applicable policies, procedures, and protocols

- Performs all phlebotomy procedures in accordance with the section's procedure manual.

- Accurately identifies patient and collects the correct specimens.

- Maintains specimen integrity by collecting and transporting specimens in a timely manner.

- Completes records (electronic and paper) and files as appropriate.

- Assists co-workers as required.

Complies with all safety policies

- Assists in ensuring a safe environment for patients, co-workers, and visitors.

- Utilizes all equipment and supplies in a manner that ensures safety to patients, co-workers, and self.

- Wears protective attire and personal protective equipment in accordance with regulatory, institutional, and divisional requirements.

- Participates in all required safety training.

*EDUCATION*

* Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

* Preferred: Associate's Degree Medical Laboratory Technician Program. or

* Completion of a specialized phlebotomy training program.

*WORK EXPERIENCE*

* Required: Completion of a MD Anderson phlebotomy internship. or

* Required: Six months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory. or

* Required: With preferred education, only three months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory required.

*LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS*

* Preferred: CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board of Registry (BOR) or American Certification Agency (ACA).

* Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
