About this Job
LSU Health New Orleans University Police Department is seeking highly qualified and motivated applicants for the title of Police Sergeant. There are multiple vacancies available. To oversee a full range of police services on an assigned shift with primary emphasis on the enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, and providing emergency services and crime prevention programs.
The incumbent in this position performs various commissioned law enforcement duties for the buildings, parking lots and surrounding areas of the LSUHSC at New Orleans campus. The incumbent also assumes the responsibility of the highest supervisory officer during his/her tour of duty when no higher supervisory officer is on duty.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of law enforcement experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Oversees and evaluates performance of lower-level officers – Close and effective supervision
+ Conducts Roll Call daily to include officer, uniform, vehicle, equipment inspections
+ Complete supervisory reports to include daily/monthly line-ups, use of force, internal investigations, first report of injury
+ Perform all the duties required of subordinates to balance staffing as needed
Position-Specific Details:
The person applying must possess a valid Driver's License.
Hours of Operation: 6:00 am - 6:00 pm or 6:00 pm - 6:00 am
Appointment Type: Probationary
Compensation: Pay Rate is dependent upon applicants’ qualifications. There is an additional $2 Premium Pay, $1 Longevity Pay for hours worked only and $2.50 Shift Differential Pay.
Pre-employment Drug testing, Physical and Criminal Background check are required.
