Position Summary
Are you passionate about community engagement, recreation, and creating positive experiences for people of all ages and abilities? The City of Bozeman is excited to announce a new full-time Recreation Leader position (30 hours per week). The Recreation Leader brings energy and creativity to plan, coordinate, and implement engaging recreation programs, activities, and events that bring people of all ages and abilities together. This position works directly with participants and their families, supports program instructors, and helps ensure programs are safe, inclusive, and enjoyable for the community.

Work Week:
Schedule 1: Monday - Friday, 3:00pm – 9:00pm
Schedule 2: Sunday – Thursday, 3:00pm – 9:00pm
Schedule 3: Monday - Friday, 8:30am – 2:30pm
Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)
+ Develops, organizes, and leads a wide variety of recreational activities, including arts and crafts, games, classes, sports, camps, and special events for the general public.
+ Interacts with parents, participants, public and other City of Bozeman employees.
+ Collects fees for open gym sessions.
+ Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.
+ Maintains attendance records.
+ Ensures the safety of all participants within an assigned recreation program, including maintaining the cleanliness and organization of equipment, materials, and facilities, performing minor equipment repair when necessary, and completing accident and incident reports.
+ Provides guidance and support to participants of various ages by enforcing rules and managing behavior.
+ Plans, organizes, coordinates, implements, evaluates, and promotes recreation programs within assigned areas, including preparing lesson plans and gathering necessary materials and equipment.
+ Performs cleaning duties including mopping, vacuuming, washing, disinfecting, and putting away supplies.
+ Conducts recreation facility checks to include cleaning, inspecting for and reporting damage to Supervisor.
+ Utilizes City vehicles to transport equipment and supplies to City parks and facilities for camps and events.
+ Markets and promotes recreation activities through presentations and outreach to community groups, and responding to requests for information from the public.
+ Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
+ Administers first aid, CPR, and use of AED as needed.
+ Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
+ Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas.
+ Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
+ Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
+ Performs other duties consistent with the role and function of this classification.
Minimum Required Qualifications
+ Experience (at least 3 months) in leading recreational activities or child development; or
+ Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Some knowledge of child development and behavior.
+ Some knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn, the current principles and practices involved in recreation programs and special events.
+ Some knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn, the goals and objectives of the Recreation Division.
+ Substantial knowledge of techniques used in the promotion of community, recreational and athletic events.
+ Ability to perform basic First Aid and C.P.R.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, other employees, and the general public.
+ Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.
+ Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions.
+ Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations.
+ Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions.
+ Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
+ Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
+ Ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
+ Consistently performs assignments in accordance with the City's Core Values of Integrity, Leadership, Service and Teamwork.
Required Special Qualifications
+ This position requires operation of a company vehicle; candidates must be 18 years of age or older and meet all company driving eligibility requirements.
+ Must possess a current valid Driver’s License and have the ability to obtain a Montana Driver’s license within 60 days of employment.
+ Must obtain and maintain certifications in the following:
+ Adult, Child and Infant First Aid/CPR/AED.
+ Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory response to appropriate post conditional offer process.

1 FTE (40 hours per week)
A 1 FTE provides enrollment in an established retirement system with significant employer contribution (9.07%), ability to accrue 15 vacation days and 12 sick days per year, and excellent medical, dental and vision benefits!
.75 FTE (30 hours per week)
A .75 FTE provides enrollment in an established retirement system with significant employer contribution (9.07%), prorated vacation and sick time accruals, and medical, dental, and vision benefits with a 75% subsidy from the City.
.5 FTE (20 hours per week)
A .5 FTE provides enrollment in an established retirement system with significant employer contribution (9.07%), prorated vacation and sick time accruals, and medical, dental, and vision benefits with a 50% subsidy from the City.
less than .5 FTE (less than 20 hours per week)
A .46 or less FTE has the option to participate in an established retirement system with significant employer contribution, prorated vacation and sick time accruals, and holiday pay.
