    Position Summary:

    The VP of Data Engineering and Operations will be driving the organization's deliverables and long-term strategy, with a strong emphasis on AI/ML engineering, data operations and delivery excellence. They will oversee the engineering of data ingestion, processing and analytics delivery platform that caters to the needs of internal and external stakeholders as well as data operations and implementations teams. Collaboration with cross-functional teams will be essential to align strategies and work towards achieving company-wide objectives. The VP of Data Engineering and Operations will proactively participate in Pareto leadership meetings and be an active leader across the organization. Leadership will be instrumental in fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability within teams, guiding them towards peak performance in data operations and delivery. By mentoring, cultivating, and recruiting the next generation of engineering leaders, the VP of Data Engineering and Operations will leave a lasting impact on the organization's growth and success.

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    In the role of VP of Data Engineering and Operations, the candidate will be responsible for leading both people and technology. Here are the major responsibilities to expect:

     

    + Technical Strategy Development: Develop and execute a technical strategy that supports the organization's long-term goals, emphasizing innovation, efficiency, and scalability. Strategy should strongly emphasize the usage of AI/ML technologies, along with leading cloud data platforms.

    + Architecture Leadership: Define and communicate the technical architecture vision and roadmap, ensuring scalability, reliability, efficiency and security of with business goals and industry best practices.

    + Technical Excellence: Champion working cross functionally to promote technical excellence within the engineering, quality and operations team, setting a high standard for execution, quality, and discipline in all projects and initiatives.

    + Data Management Strategies: Develop and implement cloud data management strategies to optimize data collection, storage, processing, and analysis, supporting Pareto's analytic software solutions and data engineering initiatives. This includes implementing FinOp’s strategies to effectively manage cloud utilization, costs.

    + Data Processing Platform Development: Lead the design, development, and optimization of data processing platforms and pipelines to meet business requirements for efficiency, quality and scalability needs.

    + Quality Assurance Oversight: Establish and oversee quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of software quality, performance, and reliability across all engineering initiatives.

    + Performance Monitoring and Improvement: Monitor and analyze data performance metrics related to completeness, timeliness, and accuracy, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing corrective actions to enhance data quality and operational efficiency.

    + Team Leadership and Development: Evaluate, mentor and empower a team of software and data engineers, implementation and data operations engineers and quality assurance professionals to drive technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.

    + Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization, including data scientists, product managers, and business leaders, to understand requirements and deliver integrated solutions. This also includes working closely with the Convey enterprise technology shared services teams, partnering to leverage Convey technologies and expertise.

    + Continuous Improvement Culture: Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging innovation, knowledge sharing, and the adoption of best practices to drive technical excellence and operational efficiency.

    + Security and Compliance: Ensure proactive transparency and compliance with security standards, system availability, and data integrity requirements across all organizational levels, mitigating risks and safeguarding sensitive healthcare data.

    + Proven experience: Developing and executing an AI or automation strategy that aligns with business objectives.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    + Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, systems analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience.

    + 10+ years of experience information technology with demonstrated growth.

    + 7+ years of experience in managing and overseeing remote/hybrid, onshore/offshore software engineering teams of 20+.

    + 5+ years of experience in building and maintaining modern, cloud data platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, Snowflake).

    + 5+ years of experience working with AI/ML technologies and exposure to newer AL technologies (generative, agentic).

    + 3+ years of experience in healthcare data analytics.

    + 5+ years of experience working with Agile methodologies.

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Responsible for compliance with all federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations affecting Company.

    + Responsible for participating in quality assurance, compliance and in-service and continuing education activities as requested by Company.

    + Responsible for performing other duties and responsibilities as required.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Experience leading engineering remote and offshore teams with a track record of increased quality and productivity

    + Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

    + Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand requirements and deliver solutions.

    + Ability to prioritize and lead multiple projects simultaneously and meeting project goals in an agile environment

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve debug complex software issues, ensuring smooth operations and data accuracy

    + Ability to provide technical guidance and support to the team, ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices.

    + Knowledge of healthcare industry standards, regulations, and data privacy requirements (e.g., HIPAA).

    + Experience with secure software development lifecycle, static and dynamic analysis tools and vulnerability remediation

    + Hands on experience architecting and building large scale data processing infrastructure

    + Experience in designing and implementing data ingestion routines and parsers to extract, transform, and load data from various sources

    + Proficiency with data integration techniques, data mapping, and data transformation processes

    + Knowledge of software testing methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing, and regression testing

    + Experience in at least one systems language (Java, C++, Scala or Go)

    + Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks with individual timeframes and priorities.

    + Ability to motivate and encourage a team of front line employees.

    + Ability to set and manage to expectations for a team responsible for direct customer contact.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    The expected base salary for this position ranges from $205,000 – 240,000 USD with a bonus target of up to 20% of the base salary. While it is not typical to offer candidates at or near the top of the range, we do consider a wide range of factors when making offer decisions, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, a candidate’s relevant skills, training, experience, education and where applicable, licensure and certifications obtained. We also consider organizational and market factors when making offer decisions. This range is a general guideline and represents a good faith estimate of what we would reasonably expect to pay for this position. We reserve the right to modify this range in the future as organizational and market conditions dictate.
