Description
Faculty Position in Translational Immunology
Department of Microbiology & Immunology and the Immunological Institute of Science
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), together with the newly launched Immunological Institute of Science, invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor level. We seek outstanding candidates engaged in translational immunology research, with emphasis on autoimmune diseases, cancer, allergy, infection-induced autoimmunity and cancer, systems immunology and AI, and interactions of immune cells with the microbiota and stromal cells and microbiota modulation of immunity in cancer and infectious disease.
This recruitment is part of a major expansion of immunological research at URMC, with significant institutional commitment of resources to this initiative. The successful candidate will join a dynamic interdisciplinary and collaborative research environment that brings together world-class expertise in basic and translational immunology, cancer immunotherapy, and RNA-based therapeutics.
Key institutional strengths include:
• Deep expertise in autoimmunity, inflammation, and microbiology, pioneering vaccine development (Haemophilus influenza type B vaccine, HPV vaccine).
• National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center that serves approximately 3 million people in 27 counties across Western NY, and has strong research and education programs including a new program in developmental therapeutics.
• Leading research in RNA biology and RNA therapeutics, with active collaborations in RNA delivery and immunomodulation.
• Partnerships with clinical departments, offering opportunities to collaborate with world-class clinicians, and access well-annotated human cohorts and bio-banked specimens.
• Support for researchers to translate scientific discoveries into clinical applications through the UR Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and the Office for Clinical Research (OCR), which offer comprehensive resources for the development, management, and execution of clinical trials.
• A strong teaching mission in immunology and microbiology. This includes graduate education supported by longstanding T32 institutional training grants and robust undergraduate and master’s programs.
• Cutting-edge core facilities for single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, intravital microscopy, and high-dimensional immune phenotyping.
The successful applicant will hold a primary appointment in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and a secondary appointment in the Immunological Institute of Science, with opportunities to affiliate with the Wilmot Cancer Institute. Joint appointments with clinical departments are also available and encouraged or primary appointments if appropriate. A generous start-up package, competitive salary, and access to robust research infrastructure will be provided. The selected candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an extramurally funded research program, engage in collaborative research, and participate in undergraduate, graduate, and medical student education. The University of Rochester is responsive to the needs of dual-career couples.
Qualifications
We welcome applicants whose research leverages these strengths. Candidates should have:
+ A Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Immunology or a related field
+ A track record of outstanding research, publication, creativity, and collaboration
+ Engagement in teaching and educational activities
+ Evidence of, or strong potential for, sustained extramural funding
