    Job Summary

    Partner with and participate proactively with senior leadership and staff in developing and executing long-range strategies and comprehensive operational plans to support the sustainability of Spectrum Health. Identify and assess business opportunities and key strategies for market differentiation. Evaluate competitors, market and industry and make recommendations for traditional and non-traditional new business ventures, lines of business and/or improvements to existing services. Align organizational goals and resources and inspire workforce to achieve them and/or determine if strategies should be adjusted or new strategies introduced.

     

    As part of our evolving Strategy & Business Development function, this role is focused on collaborating and leading innovation at the intersection of strategy and decision-support. The Director will play a pivotal role in shaping how data informs decisions, drives performance, and supports enterprise-wide growth. Key areas of focus will be:

     

    + Support the decision support platform for Strategy & Business Development This role will serve as a strategic partner in advancing the decision support platform that underpins Strategy & Business Development initiatives. The Director will help shape and refine tools that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.

    + Collaboration with Integrated Data Analytics (IDA) The Director will work closely with the Integrated Data Analytics team to align strategic priorities with analytical capabilities. This collaboration ensures that insights are translated into actionable strategies that support growth and innovation.

    + Quality control for analytical tool development A critical component of this role involves leading quality control efforts to validate the accuracy, relevance, and usability of analytical tools. The Director will review and ensure outputs are both technically sound and strategically applicable.

    + Driving innovation at the intersection of strategy and analytics This position will champion innovation within the Strategy & Business Development team by identifying and integrating analytics into planning workflows. The Director will foster a culture of experimentation and elevate how data is leveraged to inform strategy.

    Essential Functions

    + Working closely with System and Division leadership, lead strategic planning and development ensuring alignment with SH strategy. The strategy plan will consider business performance, market competition, researched innovation (both technical and business) and shifting demographics. Bring innovative thinking and ideas to the table for leadership consideration which could include joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions or other creative solutions.

    + Identify and develop relationships to aide in geographic expansion that will strengthen service line and System position. Use data gathered on program performance, changes in competitive market and competitor moves (or anticipated moves) to position the System ahead of the evolving healthcare landscape.

    + Working closely and continuously with System and Division leadership, partner in the development of the annual plan which defines annual goals aligned to strategic goals, and the tactics/initiatives required to meet them.

    + Work with SH VP of Strategy to assure alignment of divisional strategies with System strategies and goals.

    + Ensure all changes with System strategies, goals, plans and planning processes are communicated to Division leadership. This will ensure ongoing consistency and facilitate ongoing integration efforts.

    + Partner with Transformation, Market and Business Development leaders to ensure strategies are implemented and business development is aligned to the Division’s and Spectrum Health’s strategy.

    + Co- create and implement standard strategic planning process and evaluate effectiveness.

    + Direct/Manage the activities of professional and support staff engaged in work of the department. Facilitate the training and perform periodic performance reviews. Provide direction and support to staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Select, train, develop, and evaluate staff and initiate personnel actions in accordance with departmental policies and organization philosophy.

    Qualifications

    + Required Bachelor's Degree in business, marketing, statistics, mathematics or related field (or equivalent education and experience)

    + Preferred Master's Degree in business, healthcare administration or related field

    + 10 years of relevant experience Progressive experience in strategic planning and insights, market research, business analytics, strategic forecasting, or a related field. Required

    + 5 years of relevant experience Experience in a leadership role with a demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage budgets. Required

    + Healthcare industry exposure Preferred
