Description
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Director of Transportation provides strategic leadership, planning and operational oversight for all institutional transportation services at Georgia Military College (GMC). This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive fleet and bus replacement strategy, ensuring safe, reliable and compliant transportation operations; and aligning transportation services with institutional priorities that support student success and campus operations. The Director directly supervises the Assistant Director of Transportation Operations and the Assistant Director or Transportation Maintenance and services as the primary institutional authority on transportation policy, planning and performance.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Strategic transportation planning, including development and maintenance of a multi-year fleet and bus replacement plan
+ Oversight of daily transportation operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable service delivery
+ Oversight of fleet maintenance, preventative maintenance programs, and repair/replacement decisions
+ Budget development and financial management for transportation operations and capital assets
+ Compliance, policy development, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Facilities Management, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in transportation, fleet management, or a related operational environment, including supervisory responsibilities
+ Knowledge of transportation operations, safety standards, and regulatory compliance
+ Strong leadership and supervisory skills
+ Budget management and financial analysis skills
+ Effective written and verbal communication skills
+ Familiarity with CDL requirements and driver oversight
Preferred Requirements:
+ Master's degree in Transportation Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Facilities Management, or a related field
+ Experience in higher education, public-sector, or institutional transportation operations, experience with multi-year fleet or capital replacement planning
+ Experience with fleet management systems and maintenance tracking software
+ Data analysis for lifecycle planning and asset management
+ Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with P endorsement
