About the Internship
The John F. Kennedy (JFK) Redevelopment Program is responsible for planning and delivering a world class airport that will meet the growing needs of the region in 2050 when JFK is expected to handle 100M annual passengers. To accommodate that growth, JFK’s terminals, associated aircraft aprons, roads, bridges, utilities and parking, as well as the infrastructure, including AirTrain system, Cargo Facilities and Airport Fueling will need to be assessed and modernized / reconstructed. The components of the $19B Redevelopment Program will be planned, designed, financed and constructed by a combination of various developers, consultants and contractors, which will be procured through traditional and innovative procurement methods.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to be part of one of the most significant transportation and infrastructure projects in the nation. Located within the Aviation Department, this internship plays a vital role in advancing community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and MWBE contract and labor compliance efforts that support the program’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and regional economic growth.
Interns will gain hands-on experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners, attending stakeholder meetings and community events, and contributing to initiatives focused on education, workforce development, and environmental sustainability. Through meaningful project-based assignments, interns will develop strong technical, analytical, communication, and professional skills while gaining valuable insight into the operations of a first-class public agency and a major regional redevelopment program.
Responsibilities
+ Support community outreach and stakeholder compliance efforts by collaborating with internal teams and external partners, including the Office of Government & Community Relations (GOCOR).
+ Review documentation, prepare summary reports, and assist with tracking compliance-related deliverables.
+ Participate in virtual and in-person stakeholder meetings, Terminal Developer meetings, and community outreach events.
+ Assist with contract and labor MWBE compliance activities, gaining exposure to compliance processes within a large public infrastructure program.
+ Support community relations and capacity-building initiatives tied to major regional redevelopment efforts.
+ Develop and assist in the planning and coordination of programs aligned with education, business development, career and workforce development, and environmental sustainability.
+ Use Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to analyze information and create reports and presentations.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
+ Majors in Aviation Management, Engineering, Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, Community Development, Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, Environmental Studies, Sociology, Labor Relations, Industrial Relation, Education (with an interest in workforce development) or a related discipline

+ Ability to conduct research, review documentation, and prepare clear summary reports
+ Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks
+ Familiarity in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
+ Self-motivated, reliable, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
+ Strong interest in community outreach, public service, and major infrastructure or redevelopment programs
+ Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Internship Details
+ The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026
+ The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026
+ This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)
+ In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits
+ The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
