FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The College of Staten Island, CUNY, seeks a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor, specializing in sculpture. This position will develop and deliver a curriculum that integrates traditional and contemporary sculptural methods, materials, and conceptual approaches. Classes are a mix of majors and non-majors. The position also includes departmental and campus-wide service, including curriculum development, program assessment, student advising, and campus-wide committees as needed. Areas of departmental interest include, but are not limited to, wood and stone carving, steel fabrication, welding, 3D/4D printing, casting and mold-making methods, and site-specific installations.
The successful candidate will have a strong working knowledge of the history of sculpture, an ability to articulate contemporary theory and current debates on art, and a broad command of the technical skills necessary for contemporary art-making. The successful candidate will lead the area of sculpture, and oversee development of the resources and physical infrastructure of the studio classrooms.
The College of Staten Island is a four-year public institution within the City University of New York system. Ranked #33 in Top Performers in Social Mobility by U.S. News and World Report, the college serves approximately 11,400 students, including undergraduates, graduates, and PhDs, on a 204-acre campus. The Performing and Creative Arts Department, housed within the division of Humanities and Social Sciences, includes Art History, Dance, Drama, Music, Photography, and Studio Art, serving approximately 200 majors, as well as delivering courses for General Education requirements. The department produces numerous events for the campus and community each year, including professional and student gallery exhibitions, theatrical performances, and concerts. Sculpture area facilities consist of one large studio with tools and equipment for plaster and bronze casting, wood, metal, stone carving, and a 3D printer.
QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS
+ Master in Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in Sculpture or a related field.
Preferred QUALIFICATIONS
+ Substantial record of ongoing research practice, including exhibitions, grants, residencies, and/or similar activities within the field, at both the local and national level.
+ A minimum of three years teaching experience at the college level as the teacher of record, primarily teaching three-dimensional studio art.
+ Expertise in contemporary approaches, concepts, and critical issues as they pertain to three-dimensional art, as well as fluency in the history of sculpture.
+ Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design, teaching, and instruction for students.
+ Advanced communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills
COMPENSATION
$79,598 - $86,741
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
