Job Summary and Qualifications
The Research Data Science Manager role combines technical proficiency, leadership skills, and business insight to guide data teams in delivering high quality and robust research products. The Data Science Manager is responsible for overseeing data-driven projects, training and guiding teams of data scientists and analysts, and ensuring that business objectives are met through effective data access, collection, management, analysis, modeling, and visualization. This position serves as an expert resource in supporting and educating on end-to-end research through evidence generation and extends beyond the technical data work into research operations and strategy to grow the research portfolio.
In collaboration with multidisciplinary study teams that consist of project managers, outcome investigators, research directors, physician leaders, industry partners, and executive stakeholders, the Data Science Manager will support both research and clinical operations initiatives by defining the analytic questions, designing and conducting rigorous analyses of health outcomes data, and translating findings into actionable intelligence. Opportunities abound but challenges faced are difficult and often complex, requiring frequent communication and interaction with leadership _._ Finally, the Data Science Manager is expected to seek out knowledge of existing and emerging data science principles, theories, and techniques to inform research designs, business decisions, and tech integrations.
**LOCATION:** This position is Work from Home but requires the ability to travel to corporate offices in Nashville, Tennessee for critical stakeholder meetings 1-2 days per month.

**SUPERVISES:** Data Scientists and Data Analysts
DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
+ Lead, train, mentor and manage a team of data scientists and analysts, fostering collaboration and skill development
+ Develop, implement, and oversee predictive and prescriptive models using both statistical and machine learning techniques
+ Ensure data quality, integrity, and security while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and policies
+ Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs)for the data science team including training documents, templates, tools, documentation requirements, etc.
+ Conduct data analysis, interpretation, and visualization to provide actionable insights
+ Develop and optimize data collection systems and processes, including big data pipelines
+ Communicate complex data findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively
+ Collaborate with cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams to execute complex, high-stakes research protocols
+ Manage project timelines, time tracking, budgets and resource allocation for the data science team
+ Design and implement comprehensive data management and statistical analysis plans that ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with project objectives, serving as a foundational reference throughout the project lifecycle
+ Construct and manage large electronic claims and healthcare datasets as well as research registries; knowledge in domain modeling and relational database design, data transfer methods, electronic health record and health care claims standards and/or analytical techniques used in research programs
+ Start up to date with industry trends, AI/ML techniques, and emerging data technologies
+ Articulate business questions and use mathematical techniques to create business intelligence and solutions; ability to communicate with and engage business intelligence and data engineering roles
+ Develop study designs and analytic solutions based on available data sources, stakeholder needs, and timelines
+ Lead projects with hands-on analysis and machine learning modeling, drawing from multiple analytical methods to choose the right tool and right level of complexity appropriate for the research study, operational support, or business request
+ Collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders to gather and analyze needs and requirements
+ Skilled at presenting data or findings in a variety of formats (Power BI Dashboards, Structured Reports, Presentation Slides, Graphs, Figures and Tables) to diverse audiences
+ Develop and maintain a working knowledge of data science principles, analysis considerations, and assumptions made during planning of research
+ Consult on and provide direct technical support for data science projects of high complexity and often requiring solutions not previously used by the data team or working group
+ Develop and maintain knowledge of terminologies and coding procedures used in a healthcare environment

EDUCATION:
+ Master’s or PhD degree in data science, computer science, economics, statistics, mathematics, bioinformatics, or any research or data related field of study; extensive experience can substitute for PhD
EXPERIENCE(Required):
+ 6+years of experience in data science, analytics, and/or bioinformatics
+ 2+years of experience managing a team or in a leadership role
+ 2+ years of experience in healthcare and clinical research environments
+ 2+ years of experience with supporting pharma or industry funded research
+ 5+ years of proficiency in multiple programming languages; Python, R, SAS, SQL etc.
+ 5+ years of experience with data science tools and methodologies for handling unstructured data; Reg EX, NLP, LLMs etc.
+ 4+ manuscripts published as a major contributing author
+ Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice, HIPAA, DHHS 45CFR46, andFDA21 CFR regulations
EXPERIENCE (Preferred):
+ 5+ years of experience in the development of predictive analytic solutions using tools such as GCP ML Ops/R/Python/H2O/SAS and SQL
+ 3+ years of experience with creating data visualizations for results reporting, tracking clinical operations, and conveying business intelligence; Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.
+ 2+ years working with or supporting an electronic capture system (EDC) environment; survey design, eCRF creation, registry curation, etc.
+ 1+ years working with project tracking tools; Salesforce, JIRA, Confluence, Project, Tempo, CTMS, etc.
