Position Summary
The VDC Supervisor leads and manages VDC Field Technicians across multiple projects, ensuring quality field layout, efficient resource allocation, and consistent application of Southland’s VDC Field Tech standards. This role blends leadership with field technology expertise, leading staff development, coordinating workflows, and overseeing technology adoption. Unlike Senior Field Techs, who serve as project-level technical experts, the VDC Supervisor operates at a team-management level, balancing daily oversight with long-term planning while serving as a trusted partner to operations, field personnel, and project leadership.
Position Details
+ Relationship Building/Management
+ Build strong working relationships with project stakeholders and vendor partners, stepping in for escalations beyond Senior Techs.
+ Manage procurement processes and vendor relationships for field technologies and equipment.
+ Represent the VDC Field Technologies team in division or leadership forums, ensuring field perspectives inform enterprise priorities.
+ Partner with counterparts across the organization to share lessons learned, promote consistency, and align on best practices.
+ Workflow Optimization
+ Oversee scheduling, task assignments, and resource allocation for Field Techs across multiple projects.
+ Ensure adherence to quality control standards, enforcing accuracy and consistency across all deliverables.
+ Monitor team performance, address inefficiencies, and implement corrective actions.
+ Track progress against schedules and escalate systemic issues to VDC leadership when necessary.
+ Technology Deployment
+ Stay current with emerging VDC field technologies and promote adoption across the team.
+ Oversee tool and equipment procurement, calibration, and lifecycle management.
+ Ensure integration of VDC technologies into field workflows, providing structured training to onsite field personnel.
+ Change Management
+ Support VDC leadership in rolling out new practices, ensuring smooth adoption in the field.
+ Lead communication of updated procedures and expectations across the VDC Field Tech team.
+ Coach and mentor staff through evolving workflows, promoting adaptability and resilience.
+ Reinforce organizational priorities and provide team feedback to AEC leadership for continuous improvement.
+ Support and Documentation
+ Conduct annual performance reviews, career development planning, and structured feedback for Field Tech staff.
+ Document lessons learned, workflow updates, and technology adoption to strengthen team capabilities.
+ Delegate responsibilities appropriately to ensure engagement and professional growth.
+ Strategic Planning & Governance
+ Provide input into Team staffing, resourcing, and budget discussions while final accountability remains with the Senior VDC Manager.
+ Surface operational insights from the field to inform long-term planning and strategy.
+ Exercise independent judgment in supervisory decisions that impact day-to-day operations.
Qualifications
+ A proactive, “can do” mindset with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
+ Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to guide a multi-level Field Tech team.
+ Clear and effective communication, able to engage field staff, project stakeholders, and Operations leadership.
+ Practical knowledge of VDC layout, surveying technologies, and construction workflows.
+ Hands-on expertise with VDC implementation and field technology platforms.
+ Proven ability to resolve issues by balancing technical input, operational constraints, and project demands.
+ Strong organizational skills with a focus on quality, accuracy, and timely delivery.
+ Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline preferred.
+ 8–10 years of relevant experience, including at least one year in a supervisory or lead role.
