Purpose of Position:
Amalgamated Bank is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting Senior Manager to join our Finance Department. This role will report directly to the Assistant Controller and play a critical part in the Bank’s financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and allowance for credit losses (ACL) processes. The main role is to oversee and ensure the daily accounting production for the loan and Allowance for Credit Loss (ACL) accounting functions is performed timely and in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting expertise, experience in banking or financial services, and a proven track record in managing complex reporting requirements. Other responsibilities include ensuring integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial statements; provide technical expertise on significant accounting issues; monitor and strengthen internal controls and related documentation; ensure policy/regulatory compliance.
Essential Job Functions:
+ Lead and support the preparation, review, and documentation of the Allowance for Credit Loss (ACL) model. Collaborate with enterprise risk, credit risk, and finance teams to ensure accurate allowance calculations and compliance with regulatory standards.
+ Oversee quarterly ACL calculations, ensuring data accuracy and proper application of methodologies as well as adherence to CECL, GAAP, and regulatory guidelines
+ Drive improvements in data quality and reliability related to ACL.
+ Interpret ACL results, perform analysis and prepare reports for presentation to senior management; present to committees.
+ Responsible for overall management of general ledger, including journal entry integrity and reconciliations related to loans and allowance.
+ Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
+ Participate in the annual audit processes, coordinating with external and internal auditors and addressing any findings or recommendations.
+ Assist in the preparation and review of relevant financial statement footnotes, call report, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Coordinate with internal stakeholders to gather necessary data and ensure compliance with SEC, FDIC and other regulatory bodies.
+ Support the bank's commitment to social responsibility by integrating sustainable practices into accounting operations and promoting ethical decision-making.
+ Participate in ad-hoc projects as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification and MBA preferred.
+ Minimum of 5 - 7 years of experience in loan accounting, ACL, financial reporting, or a related field within the banking industry.
+ Strong knowledge of GAAP, regulatory requirements, and ASC 326.
+ Proven experience in developing and implementing internal controls and process improvements.
+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
+ Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software is desirable; Experience with Axiom, Workiva and Abrigo Sageworks, or industry equivalents, are preferred.
+ Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with senior management, auditors, and regulatory agencies; manager experience preferred.
+ Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
