Job Title: Wire Harness DesignerJob Description
In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing battery systems, wiring harnesses, body electronics, and interior lighting. Your work will include handling the mechanical and electrical components of wiring harnesses, such as relays, fuses, fuse boxes, relay modules, body/door control units, power distribution units, and more. Additionally, you will manage the physical components of the interior lighting system, including map lights, accent lighting, and cargo lighting.
Responsibilities
+ Design automotive wiring harnesses and circuit structures, fusing systems, battery, and body electronics.
+ Conduct feasibility studies, cost analysis, engineering calculations, and specification development.
+ Utilize CAD tools for 3D and 2D mechanical design and drawings, and for electrical system schematic design.
+ Develop automotive wiring harnesses and manage scheduling and coordination activities for part development.
+ Prepare reporting documentation for evaluations and team events.
+ Collaborate closely with test engineers to develop specifications, interpret test results, and modify designs as needed.
+ Communicate effectively with purchasing, manufacturing, project teams, and suppliers to negotiate design details and resolve issues.
+ Estimate part costs and collaborate on supplier quotes and negotiations.
+ Mentor, train, and lead less experienced team members.
Essential Skills
+ Experience with fuse boxes, wiring harnesses, electronics, relays, power distribution units, circuit structures, and fusing systems.
+ Proficiency in CAD tools such as CATIA and SolidWorks for harness and circuit design.
+ Strong skills in design feasibility, cost analysis, and schematic and panel design.
+ Experience in 3D electronic design, product design, and wireframing.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associate or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
+ At least 3 months of relevant experience.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft tools.
+ Basic understanding of engineering concepts related to mechanical statics and dynamics design, circuit analysis, and electric devices.
+ Competency in problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills, especially in vendor interactions.
Work Environment
You will be part of a design team consisting of approximately 40 professionals. The work environment is research and development-focused with a strong demand for engineering expertise for the foreseeable future. You will enjoy good leadership within the department.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raymond, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $43.00/hr.
