STGi is recruiting for an Occupational Medicine Physician - Reviewing Medical Officer (RMO) for the Law Enforcement and Surveillance Case Review Program for Federal Occupational Health Services (FOH) in Rockville, MD and/or Nationwide/Remote.
Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities: The Reviewing Medical Officer (RMO) in the Law Enforcement and Surveillance (LE-S) Case Review Program evaluates cases for federal agencies seeking medical clearance for safety-sensitive positions, such as federal law enforcement officers and firefighters, as well as for surveillance related to occupational exposures . The LE-S RMOs also review and provide recommendations for other types of occupational medicine evaluations related to LE- S. In addition to conducting case reviews, the RMO provides expert medical consultation on law enforcement and surveillance programs for federal employees. While the RMO works independently, they also collaborate with team members, offering consultation and training to ensure high-quality reviews and exceptional customer service.
Clinical
The Joint Commission (TJC) – Quality and Safety
+ Participates in preparation for TJC accreditation, as requested .
+ Maintains all medical records securely according to TJC standards .
+ Maintains appointment to medical staff and privileges for all services assigned according to FOH Credentialing and Privileging policy .
+ Maintain board-certification and licenses to practice medicine in accordance with professional societies and state regulations .
+ Participates in FOH peer review process as requested .
+ Assist in establishing and participate in performing continuous quality improvement assessments of the various examination types that are reviewed in law enforcement and medical surveillance .
Service Operations
+ Performs various types of occupational medical reviews, as assigned .
+ Provide medical content of written and oral consultation determinations and recommendations to the customer with 100 percent accuracy .
+ Demonstrate the ability to convey expert medical opinions and advice using excellent communication skills. These communications will primarily be written .
+ Supports the medical and consultative needs for one (1) or more federal agencies .
+ Perform a mixture of administrative, clinical, and consultant responsibilities depending on the specific assignments and the needs of FOH in completing a case .
+ Perform medical consultation and completes reviews in accordance with FOH policy and guidelines .
+ Demonstrates a strong level of technical expertise in occupational and primary care medicine and provides consultation (and medical care when required ) of the highest caliber .
+ Demonstrate the ability to work and communicate effectively, particularly in high stress situations .
+ Possess a strong technical knowledge regarding federal occupational safety and health regulations .
+ Provides assistance and consultative support to E xamining P hysicians (Eps) when needed .
+ M ay be required to perform clinical duties in support of a gency needs such as ordering and reviewing labs, client follow-up, etc. .
+ May be required to conduct hands-on examinations (if privileged by FOH ), and render a professional opinion as it relates to work clearances or recommendations consistent with the examination findings and established physical qualifications .
+ Monitors health of employees and employee populations enrolled in medical surveillance programs and conducts epidemiologic assessment of these populations when warranted .
+ Advises Federal agency clients on development, management, and improvement of medical surveillance and certification programs .
+ May be asked to provide occupational and environmental medicine related presentations to Federal agency employee group .
+ Performs at least annual reviews of agency existing medical programs for which they are the lead RMO, with other members of the FOH team ( i.e., Customer Agreement Manager (CAM), Account Executive (AE) , Administrative Medical Assistant (AMA), Administrative Assistants (AA ) .
+ Provides expert witness testimony as needed related to case reviews performed .
Administrative (Business/Management)
Procurement
+ Performs work as contract employee according to both FOH and vendor rules and requirements.
Cost Recovery
+ Submit monthly billing in the required format and by the specified deadline when requested .
+ Report billing for services with 100 percent accuracy.
+ Adheres to limits of administrative time when applicable .
Staffing and Reporting Relationships
+ Receive s FOH program direction from the FOH Medical Director or designee .
+ Notifies FOH Medical Director or designee of any planned Leave of absence using established processes .
+ Attends all monthly RMO calls in real time or by viewing recorded sessions .
+ Presents interesting case or topic to RMOs apropos to l aw e nforcement or m edical s urveillance at least once each calendar year .
Technology
+ Completes all required training and demonstrates proficiency in using FOH IT systems (including FedHealth ) for the performance of reviews and communication .
+ Reviews and complies with all f ederal cybersecurity policies and standard operating procedures.
Strategy
Customer Service
+ Demonstrate s a high level of professional conduct .
+ Provide s quality work products in a short time frame, which is pre-determined by the type of work that is to be completed .
+ Works with designated management, safety, and human relations personnel of federal agency clients on all matters pertaining to occupational health and safety and related programs and services .
+ Partners with FOH team members ( AE, AMA , Program Manager for medical review) to provide prompt response to customer inquiries related to case reviews or urgent consultation.
Required Skills
Minimum Requirements/Knowledge/Skills:
+ Advanced training in Public Health is desired with previous experience as a medical consultant for a f ederal agency .
+ Ability to comprehend and apply medical and physical requirements and standards for clearance, surveillance, and employability recommendations .
+ Ability to comprehend and apply Position Description requirements in matters of f itness for d uty .
+ Ability to research and apply latest federal regulations or advise on recommended standards as they pertain to the occupational needs of the federal populations including law enforcement and other employees who perform safety sensitive jobs .
+ Experience in dealing with various size organizations representing widely divergent backgrounds, points of view, and levels of authority ( i .e. , labor union and management issues relating to occupational health ) .
+ A broad knowledge of requirements for federal workplace drug testing programs and past expert witness experience as well as experience in marketing/expanding occupational health services is desired .
+ Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, and HIPAA-compliant encryption software.
+ Must be able to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally, to various stakeholders about occupational health issues involving specific employees, or agency wide issues .
+ Must be comfortable performing trend analysis on populations .
+ Must be knowledgeable of f ederal regulations and capable of researching other applicable regulations (ANSI, ACGIH, etc.) to design and convey recommendations for implementing occupational medicine programs and services based upon a gency specific work environments .
Required Experience
Minimum Education Requirements/Certification/Licensure/Experience:
+ Must be a qualified medical or osteopathic physicians and possess a current license to practice medicine.
+ Must be board - certified in o ccupational m edicine, a erospace m edicine, or board certified in a primary care specialty ( i nternal m edicine or f amily m edicine) with at least five (5) years’ experience in occupational medicine . Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an occupational clinic setting .
+ Must possess expert understanding of f ederal safety and health regulations, experience in occupational health related to clearance and surveillance case reviews for various jobs including law enforcement and other safety sensitive jobs.
+ Experience consulting in occupational health .
+ Master of Public Health strongly preferred .
