    Position Summary

    The Laboratory Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the hospital’s clinical laboratory services within the framework of a health system model. This role ensures high-quality, cost-effective, and compliant laboratory operations while aligning with system-wide standards, initiatives, and performance goals. The Director collaborates with system leadership, hospital executives, and clinical teams to optimize laboratory services, support patient care, and drive continuous improvement.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership

    + Develop and implement the hospital laboratory’s operational plan in alignment with system-wide strategies and objectives.

    + Participate in system governance committees to standardize processes, share best practices, and contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives.

    + Forecast future service needs and recommend investments in technology, staffing, and infrastructure.

    Operational Management

    + Oversee daily operations of all laboratory sections (clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, pathology, etc.) ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.

    + Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to meet quality, efficiency, and financial targets.

    + Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, DNV, and other regulatory requirements.

    System Integration & Collaboration

    + Coordinate with system laboratory leadership to implement standardized policies, procedures, and quality programs.

    + Facilitate resource sharing and cross-site collaboration to optimize capacity and reduce redundancy.

    + Support system initiatives such as centralized purchasing, reference lab agreements, and digital pathology solutions.

    Financial & Resource Management

    + Develop and manage the laboratory budget, including staffing, equipment, and supply costs.

    + Drive cost-containment strategies while maintaining service quality and patient safety.

    + Participate in system-level financial planning and benchmarking.

    Leadership & Staff** **Development

    + Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing laboratory team.

    + Promote a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional development.

    + Ensure staff competency through ongoing education and performance evaluations.
