SUMMARY
SUNY Brockport is accepting applications for a Communications Infrastructure Technician. The Communications Infrastructure Technician is looking for an energetic, motivated individual with excellent interpersonal communication skills. The Communications Infrastructure Technician position provides installation and support for the University’s network, telephone system, Cbord CS Gold Access Control, and security cameras. They will be responsible for working both independently and as part of a team and will be expected to maintain an understanding of the technology that supports the critical infrastructure of the University. This position also directly supports and maintains all aspects of the security/access control systems of all on-campus housing locations.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
+ Maintains the day-to-day operations, addresses customer issues and requests, and manages the telephone infrastructure, including all VOIP telecommunications, the voice mail system, and call center software.
+ Installs access control systems ( Cbord CS Gold) with card swipes.
+ Gathers, organizes, and analyzes data in the completion of a variety of functional assignments.
+ Applies troubleshooting and problem resolution skills to determine issues using established parameters, escalating as necessary.
+ Works with various network hardware platforms, network related protocols and software, and related technical standards critical to the operations.?
+ Works with network diagnostic and performance management tools and software.?
+ Ensures the proper operation of campus emergency notification systems.
+ Assists with campus improvement initiatives.
+ Assists with the design, implementation, and documentation of systems and technologies.
+ Performs updates and maintenance of hardware and software related to communications technologies.
+ Collaborates with Facilities and Planning.
+ Collaborates with network staff to troubleshoot and repair infrastructure and configuration issues.
+ Works to improve processes needed to provide quality customer service.
+ Maintains, upgrades, and documents the campus cable/fiber plant.
+ Troubleshoots and supports residential network , security cameras, and access control concerns/issues. Works directly with customer (students) on support related issues.
+ Provides proper notification to users when services are unavailable.
+ Serves in a 3 person on-call rotation to help support critical after hours access control/security hardware/software issues.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Minimum of one year of experience installing network infrastructure
+ Demonstrated experience installing and running network cabling
+ Demonstrated ability to learn and keep up-to-date with emerging technology
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Associates degree with 3-5 years experience
+ Experience installing and terminating network fiber
+ Experience coordinating with vendors on system installations and troubleshooting
+ Experience working in large physical and wireless network environments
+ Knowledge of professional communications and network concepts in completion of assignments and resolution of issues

Work Schedule:
37.5 hours/week: Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 pm

Retirement
+ NYS Employees' Retirement System (ERS) and NYS Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) - Defined benefit plans; benefits are based on best Final Average Salary and years of service.
+ SUNY Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) - Defined contribution plan; benefits are based on the employer and employee contributions and the success of the investments. Employer contribution is 8% of salary for first seven years of service, 10% thereafter.
Membership for full-time and permanent employees is mandatory. All full-time employees are eligible to elect ERS or the ORP; employees in teaching, librarian, or coach (including assistant) titles are also eligible for TRS and may choose any of the three plans.
