    Job Summary & General Information

     

    The City of Alpharetta is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Camp Manager. The Camp Manager will oversee the operations of the Wills Park Summer Day Camp, Wills Park: Level-Up, Wills Park: Extreme, and Camp Happy Hearts. The purpose of this position is to organize and supervise the day-to-day operation of the summer camp programs. The Camp Manager reports to the Program Coordinator and Supervisor at the Alpharetta Community Center. The Camp Manager would need to be available to work camp from May 26– July 31. The Camp Manager will be required to work the months before camp sporadically helping with inventory, camp planning, and staff interviews.

    Job Description

    Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator and Supervisor, the Camp Manager will be responsible for the operations of the four City of Alpharetta based summer camps. The Camp Manager is responsible for coordinating staff schedules, activities, policies, and procedures. Responsibilities include the overall management of the camps programs and their operation, facilitating, planning, and coordinating of the education programs and activities. The Camp Manager will be overseeing the activity areas including indoor and outdoor games, sports, swimming, fitness activities, arts and crafts, on-site enrichment programs, and field trips, as well as group lunches, snack time, and pre/post-camp care.

     

    Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

    The Camp Manager will be responsible for:

    + Assuring the pre-camp planning and daily programming for the four camps is completed

    + Training, supervising, motivating, and evaluating staff of camp counselors and volunteer counselors; reviewing progress and directing changes as needed

    + Organizing staff workloads, work schedules, and assignments

    + Health, safety, and care of all participants, staff, and volunteers

    + Care of supplies, equipment, and facilities

    + Procurement of camp supplies, equipment, and snack items as needed

    + Following and enforcing all policies outlined in the camp training and city personnel manuals

    + Handling discipline issues and emergencies

    + Rendering first aid in cases of minor injuries

    + Maintaining and monitoring accurate records and forms such as employee timesheets, attendance (sign-in and sign-out sheets), behavioral incidents, accident reports, parental communication, and medical issues

    + Performing daily inspections of the camps concerning safety and cleanliness

    + Assisting with light-duty cleaning, and the setup and breakdown of tables and chairs

    + Assisting supervisor in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of camp programs and staff

    + Overseeing the implementation of the camp schedule of activities

    + Performing miscellaneous tasks as directed

     

    This is not a desk job. The Camp Manager is expected to take an active, hands-on role in the daily operation of the camps -- interacting regularly with participants, parents, staff, and supervisors to provide a high-quality experience for all stakeholders.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.

    + Studying currently or holds a degree in the following is preferred: Special Education, General Education, Early Childhood Development, Psychology, or Social Work/Sociology.

    + At least two (2) years of paid or volunteer experience planning, organizing, and supervising art and recreational activities for groups of children ages 6-15 in a structured environment is preferred.

    + Individuals with a background in physical education or formal art instruction are strongly desired.

    + Applicant must have considerable knowledge of summer camp planning and administration.

    + Applicant must have strong leadership, customer service, and interpersonal skills.

    + Applicant must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Exceptional communication skills are essential.

    + Applicant must have PC skills, particularly with the internet, e-mail, MS Excel, and Word documents.

    + Applicant must be willing to work cooperatively with others.

    + Applicant must be able to interpret policies and procedures.

    + Applicant must provide their own transportation.

    + Applicant must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

    + Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of this role, with or without accommodation.

    + Applicant must be willing to work a flexible daytime schedule, Monday through Friday, from May 26 – July 31.

    + Applicant must be able to attend mandatory Camp Staff orientation/training sessions scheduled Tuesday, May 26 – Friday, May 29.

    + Regular and consistent attendance is required.

    Pre-Employment Requirements

    + Applicant must clear a criminal background check.

    + Applicant must pass a mandatory drug test.

    + Hired applicants must possess a valid certificate of course completion for First Aid training that includes Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Children and Infants, First Aid, and AED. This training must be from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. The City of Alpharetta will offer a CPR course during the week of camp training for all those who need this certification.

    + Hired applicants must provide official verification as to identity and work authorization.
