Job Summary & General Information
The City of Alpharetta is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Camp Director.
Applications will be selected to serve as the Camp Director for a specific camp:
Wills Park Summer Day Camp, children ages 6-8
Wills Park: Level-Up Camp, children ages 9-11
Wills Park Summer Day Camp: Extreme, children ages 12-14
Camp Happy Hearts, children ages 6-12
The purpose of this position is to assist with the organizing and supervision of the day-to-day operation of the summer camp program. The Camp Director reports to the Camp Manager, Program Coordinator, and Supervisor at the Alpharetta Community Center. The Camp Director would need to be available to work from May 26 – July 31. The Camp Directors may be required to work the months before camp sporadically helping with inventory, camp planning, and staff interviews.
Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Camp Manager, the Camp Director will be responsible for the daily operation of the specific camp they are assigned to. Activity areas include indoor and outdoor games, swimming, sports, fitness activities, arts and crafts, on-site enrichment programs, and field trips; as well as group lunches and snack time, pre/ post camp care.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
The Camp Director will be responsible for:
+ Pre-camp planning and daily programming.
+ Assisting with training, supervising, motivating, and evaluating camp counselors; reviewing progress and directing changes as needed.
+ Supervising the daily operations of the assigned camp; provides general direction to staff and campers.
+ Health, safety, and care of all participants, staff, and volunteers
+ Care of supplies, equipment, and facilities
+ Procurement of camp supplies, equipment, and snack items as needed.
+ Following and enforcing all policies outlined in the camp training and city personnel manuals.
+ Handling discipline issues and emergencies
+ Rendering first aid in cases of minor injuries
+ Assis with maintaining and monitoring accurate records and forms such as employee timesheets, attendance (sign-in and sign-out sheets), behavioral incidents, accident reports, parental communication, and medical issues
+ Performing daily inspections of the camp concerning safety and cleanliness
+ Assisting with light-duty cleaning, and the setup and breakdown of tables and chairs
+ Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the camp programs and staff.
+ Coordinating and implementing camp schedule of activities.
+ Participating in parent conferences as needed
+ Performing miscellaneous tasks as directed
This is not a desk job. The Camp Director is expected to take an active, hands-on role in the daily operation of the camp -- interacting regularly with participants, parents, staff, and supervisors to provide high-quality experience for all stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
+ Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.
+ At least two (2) years of paid or volunteer experience planning, organizing, and supervising art and recreational activities for groups of children ages 6-14 in a structured environment is preferred.
+ Individuals with a background in physical education, working with children, or formal instruction are strongly desired.
+ Applicant must have considerable knowledge of summer camp planning and administration.
+ Applicant must have strong leadership, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
+ Applicant must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Exceptional communication skills are essential.
+ Applicant must have PC skills, particularly with the internet, e-mail, MS Excel, and Word documents.
+ Applicant must be willing to work cooperatively with others.
+ Applicant must feel comfortable working around/in water
+ Applicant must be able to interpret policies and procedures.
+ Applicant must provide their own transportation.
+ Applicant must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
+ Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of this role, with or without accommodation.
+ Applicant must be willing to work a flexible daytime schedule, Monday through Friday, from May 26 - July 31.
+ Applicant must be able to attend mandatory Camp Staff orientation/training sessions scheduled Tuesday, May 26 - Friday, May 29.
+ Regular and consistent attendance is required.
