    Description of Job

    Hourly Wage: $20.00/hr.

     

    *This position is a part-time working arrangement allotting no more than 15 hours per week.

    Objectives:

    + Report to the Legislative Liaison and Director of Legislative Affairs

    + The intern will spend time at the State Capitol observing the department’s Legislative Policy Advisor in order to understand the functions of that individual’s role.

    + Upon completion of the internship, the intern will understand how to track voluminous amounts of introduced state legislation within a short period of time.

    + The intern will understand each step required to submit a request to the Governor’s Office in order to receive approval for the Department to engage on pending legislation.

    + The intern will understand how to communicate the history of pending legislation to Department staff, including changes to legislation through amendments and committee votes.

    + The intern will understand protocols for scheduling meetings with legislators and policy advocates.

    + The intern will understand how to coordinate and manage calendar appointments to prevent scheduling conflicts and ensure optimal time management.

    + The intern will understand the steps required to provide complete and accurate responses to requests for information from members and staff of the General Assembly.

    + The intern will understand the Department’s procedures for tracking and routing statutory reports.

    + The internship will be completed by May 15, 2026.

    Activities Include:

    + Bill Tracking. T rack bill status from concept through implementation during the legislative session for legislation impacting the Energy Office and Energy Office-led efforts. Ensure Executive Leadership Team and Legislative Team have the most recent, updated version. Assist with Position Requests on various draft bills.

    + Legislative Calendar Management. Manage executive engagement, including maintaining legislative calendars, tracking hearings and sending invitations, scheduling subject matter experts and executive leadership for testimony.

    + Scheduling and Meeting Planning. Work closely with the Legislative Team to schedule internal and external meetings to review bill language, plan strategy, discuss new bills and provide feedback. Work closely with Legislative Liaison and Director of Legislative Affairs to assist with logistics related to hearings including scheduling hearings with legislative staff, drafting testimony or talking points, creating handouts and binders, editing and providing copies of fact sheets and other key information to legislators and legislative staff as needed.

    + Other Duties as Assigned. Provide assistance as needed in the office, at the capitol or remotely to ensure success of legislative, budget and affordability agendas.

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    Successful candidates will:

    + Have excellent writing and editing skills

    + Ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals

    + Be organized and possess superior time management skills

    + Demonstrate initiative and be able to move forward on tasks and projects with little supervision

    + Have professional communication skills

    + Dedicate a minimum of 10 hours per week and be available for occasional evenings

    + Begins ASAP; end date May 15, 2026 with opportunity to extend commitment to another project

    Any senior college student enrolled in an accredited community college, college, or university seeking an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree program is eligible.     A recent college graduate . “Recently graduated” means the individual must have attended an accredited college or university and graduated with an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree within the past three calendar years (please include transcripts).
