    About this Position:

    This is an advanced level position that requires prior specialized licenses from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA); specifically at minimum a Commercial Pilot Certificate. The incumbent performs professional air operations work under the supervision of the Aircraft Fleet Chief Pilot and will endeavor to aid as directed for the Department of Transportation and Development's Location and Survey section. The incumbent may be required to work outside of normal business hours. Ability and willingness to maintain flight currency and proficiency in order to safely provide services for crewed, as well as the ability to provide safe single-pilot flight operations in day, night and instrument flight conditions in aircraft representative of a complex, high-performance, turbine, single-engine or multi-engine, fixed-wing airplane configuration during operations for LiDAR and photography collection activities as well as passenger, training and maintenance use flights is paramount.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Possession of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) first-class or second-class medical certificate and either of the following:

    1. A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Pilot license with instrument rating with 750 hours of recorded flight time.

    2. A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) license.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to check out on the model and types of aircraft to be flown.

     

    Possession of appropriate ratings, waivers and/or certificates that may be required by the position to which the appointment is being made.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Utilizes specialized certificates and ratings obtained through the United States Department of Transportation.

    + Ensures that all pre-flight, flight and post-flight procedures conform to Federal Aviation Administration regulations, manufacturer requirements and DOTD guidelines. Aids in decision making with regard to weather conditions and other factors related to safe flying.

    + Serves as co-pilot or pilot in command while conducting crewed flights for the operations of statewide mapping, aerial photography and LiDAR scanning for unit of Location and Survey in order to maintain a current catalogue of images throughout the state; as well as for operations during passenger flights for DOTD, Governor's Office and other official uses.

    + During flights, helps to provide safe supervision over the photography and LiDAR scanning equipment operators while aboard aircraft involved in air operations, as well as aid in the installation and removal of the major and minor components of collection equipment and/or seating as appropriate to required configuration.

    + Helps to create and/or review flight plans for each type of aircraft utilization as configured or as required. Such as mission planning specific to collection systems related to mapping for both LiDAR and aerial photography, flight planning and performance calculations related to passenger, training, or maintenance flight uses. Aids in conducting the aforementioned passenger flights for DOTD personnel, such as the Secretary and/or staff, Heads of other state agencies, and State or Federal officials as directed and approved.

    + Completes forms and documents or software programs necessary to track aircraft usage, cost and pilot training requirements. Keeps records for the aircraft use in legible and accurate manor. Facilitates light maintenance such as cleaning the aircraft and/or hangar.
