Our Data, Digital, and Analytics (DDA) team is dedicated to solving complex healthcare challenges and improving patient outcomes. DDA empowers business partners across Commercial, Medical, and Government Affairs (CMG) to make impactful decisions by leveraging data, analytics, business products, and AI/ML to enable fast, targeted actions in rapidly evolving business contexts. The Opportunity
The Director, Data Product Owner is responsible for development, management and adoption of robust Data products across Genentech, in which this role will shape and implement the evolving data strategy, as it relates to management and usage of customer data across different functions including Commercial, Medical Affairs & Govt. Affairs. As a subject matter expert, the individual will work closely with stakeholders to understand requirements and recommend appropriate solutions. This person will be required to forge strong relationships with stakeholders & partners to inform, gain alignment, unlock & solve complex business challenges, and influence the data product roadmap. This person will closely work with a host of internal partners, including affiliate business team, compliance and regional IT, as well as external data vendors.
+ Product Vision and Strategy: Shape the long-term vision and standards for Data Product solutions, aligning with organizational goals, digital transformation, and industry trends.
+ Strategic Framework Management: Develop and maintain business process frameworks for data product health, metadata management, and adherence to industry standards.
+ Stakeholder Liaison and Partnership: Act as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders and technical teams, managing demand requests and providing domain guidance.
+ Product Lifecycle and Backlog: Partner with cross-functional leadership to prioritize backlogs and implement product enhancements that ensure data quality, usability, and seamless integration.
+ Governance and Compliance: Establish and enforce data governance policies (HIPAA, GDPR) and data mesh/fabric principles to ensure data integrity, security, and scalability.
+ Performance Optimization: Monitor and measure product performance in collaboration with IT to identify optimization opportunities and ensure consistent value delivery.
+ Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead and mentor the product team, managing resource allocation, career development, and hiring while fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
Who You Are
+ Bachelor’s degree in Business, Technology, Operations, Marketing, Data Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field.
+ 8 years of combined experience in data-product management, data-based management, key pharmaceutical/biotechnology customer data assets like HCP/HCO/MCO mastering, Hierarchy and Affiliation management or equivalent experience.
+ Proven expertise in owning the full product lifecycle, including roadmap creation, technical system integration, and the management of complex pharmaceutical data ecosystems (MDM, CRM, customer hierarchies, and vendor relationships).
+ Strong leadership skills to manage and inspire talent, manage budgets and resource allocation, and align cross-functional stakeholders—including Legal, Compliance, and Privacy—to ensure regulatory adherence and product evangelism.
+ Demonstrated ability to translate technical data system performance and health metrics into actionable business insights, maintaining a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology information landscape.
Preferred
+ Advanced degree (e.g., MBA or related graduate-level qualification).
+ Work experience in other functions within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related industry, e.g., commercial operations, field sales or sales management, field sales operations, field account management, product marketing, market planning, strategic planning, etc.
+ Knowledge of MDM solutions like Reltio, Informatica MDM; pharma CRM solutions like Salesforce, OCE, Veeva CRM; cloud platforms like AWS, Hadoop.
+ Proven success in managing large-scale, complex projects requiring strategic planning and operational execution.
+ Experience working with Pharmaceutical Commercial data like sales, specialty pharmacy, claims and Digital/marketing.
+ Expertise in driving product enhancements based on measurement and optimization insights.
+ Ability to innovate and foster experimentation to improve product capabilities.
+ Advanced knowledge of workflow tools, automation systems, and compliance frameworks.
+ Strong problem-solving and adaptability to navigate ambiguous or evolving environments.
This position is based in South San Francisco, CA and offers a hybrid schedule working from the office 3 days per week.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $177,100 - $328,900. **Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.** This position is eligible to earn incentive compensation that is calculated and paid in accordance with the applicable Incentive Compensation Plan for the role. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
