Summary:
We are seeking a Research Intern with a background in Product or Mechanical Design, and Artificial Intelligence to join our Metaverse Display & Optics Engineering team. In this role, you will develop a custom AI product design co-pilot tool, specifically tailored for Display & Optics design in VR and Wearables products. This project aims to significantly enhance productivity and accelerate innovation within Meta’s Display & Optics mechanical engineering teams by integrating common design rules, key parameters, materials databases, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) guidelines into a next-generation, AI-powered design platform.Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty-four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Required Skills:
Research Scientist Intern, AI for Product Design (PhD) Responsibilities:
1. Review and summarize mechanical design common Display & Optics design rules across optical systems, ET/FT, display module, and varifocal systems
2. Compile and organize materials properties and databases, including mechanical and optical characteristics
3. Design and build a custom CAD AI co-pilot module for D&O mechanical engineers
4. Integrate D&O module design rules, parameters, and materials database into the AI co-pilot
5. Incorporate FPC common design rules to enhance module functionality
6. Work closely with the Meta NX team to align on requirements and implementation.
7. Present findings, progress, and summary to stakeholders throughout the internship

8. Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
9. Demonstrated experience in advanced AI/ML models and methodologies
10. Foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals and proven proficiency in product design, particularly with Siemens NX or other industry-standard CAD/CAE tools
11. Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain on-going work authorization during employment
12. Intent to return to degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op

13. Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
14. Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences
Public Compensation:
$7,313/month to $12,134/month + benefits
