Note: These are not Law Enforcement positions. Responsibilities Plans and conducts aquatic/riparian inventories and studies which are similar to previous such efforts. Analyzes data collected. Plans and conducts simple water quality sampling of stream and lakes. Enters and retrieves data from automated databases. Operating motor vehicles. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Selective Placement Factors: This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element. Those who do not provide evidence they possess the following selective factor(s) will be rated not qualified: Knowledge of fish biology Field work experience In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. To qualify for the GS-07 level, you must meet one of the following requirements: 1) Experience: Possess one full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Plan and conduct aquatic/riparian inventories and studies; plan and conduct uncomplicated fish population studies and analyze collected data; plan and conduct simple water quality sampling of streams and lakes; enter and retrieve data from automated databases. -OR- 2) Education: One full year (18 semester/27 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level coursework directly related to the work of fishery biology. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. The education must be obtained in an accredited college or university. -OR- 3) Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate level education. The combined total must equal 100%. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to efficiently perform the work of the position, and to provide for personal comfort and safety. This can include tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods of work away from vehicles. Work Environment: Office work is performed in an adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. During fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions, and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals. Employee will adhere to all safety rules. Education Applicants may qualify for these positions based on experience, education, or an equivalent combination as described in the Qualifications section of this announcement. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One full year of graduate education meets the requirements for GS-7.
