    Job Description:

    The Operations Control Specialist oversees the execution of flight operations by exercising operational control in line with Federal Aviation Administration, (FAA) Part 135 requirements. It monitors flights, ensures regulatory compliance, communicates with flight crews, and documents operational decisions. This position provides critical support and guidance and ensures safe and compliant flight operations while effectively coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.

    Essential Functions

    + Monitors active flights to ensure safe and compliant operations in accordance with FAA Part 135 regulations and company policies.

    + Exercises operational control, including the authority to initiate, continue, divert, or terminate flights as necessary.

    + Maintains real-time communication with flight crews, dispatchers, maintenance personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated operations.

    + Continuously assesses weather conditions and update flight crews on potential hazards or necessary deviations from planned routes.

    + Reviews flight plans, weight and balance calculations, and other critical documentation to verify compliance and accuracy.

    + Maintains accurate and thorough records of all operational control decisions, flight activities, crew assignments, and deviations.

    + Assists in emergency response coordination, including activation of emergency protocols and communication with relevant agencies.

    + Conducts post-flight reviews to ensure documentation is complete and accurate

    + Participates in training, evaluations, and ongoing professional development to maintain operational control proficiency.

    + Stays current with changes in FAA regulations, company procedures, and industry best practices to ensure compliance.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Demonstrated experience in an aviation, military aircraft operations, or dispatch center related field (e.g. pilot license, flight dispatcher, aviation communications specialist, 911 dispatch, Air Traffic Control, etc.)

    + Intermediate computer proficiency

    + Excellent communications skills

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Two years’ experience in an aviation, military aircraft operations, or dispatch center related field (e.g. pilot license, flight dispatcher, aviation communications specialist, 911 dispatch, Air Traffic Control, etc.)

    + Helicopter Air Ambulance Pilot experience

    + Demonstrated knowledge of FAA Part 135 regulations and operational control responsibilities

    + Previous experience in an Operational Control Center (OCC) or Part 135 environment

    + Demonstrated familiarity with flight tracking and communication systems (e.g., Flight Vector, ADS-B, etc.)

    + Additional certifications in aviation safety or operations management

    + Experience working with emergency response procedures and safety management systems (SMS)

    Physical Requirements:

    + Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.

    + Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

    + Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate supplies and equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.

    + Ability to sit for extended periods while monitoring flight operations and communicating with crews

    + Capability to work in a high-stress environment and make critical decisions in real-time

    + Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, such as moving records or training materials

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

     

    $26.41 - $40.22
