    SUNY Oneonta invites applications for the position of Associate Provost for Academic Affairs (APAA), a pivotal leadership role for an innovative, student-centered academic administrator eager to help shape the future of a regional public university with a strong mission of access, excellence, and community impact.

     

    The APAA will join SUNY Oneonta at an important moment of institutional momentum, marked by academic innovation, expanded experiential learning opportunities, and strengthened community and workforce partnerships. This role offers the opportunity to lead high-impact academic initiatives that enhance program quality, support faculty development, and advance a curriculum that is forward-looking, inclusive, and closely aligned with student success and career readiness.

     

    Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the APAA serves as the Provost's principal academic advisor and strategic partner on matters related to academic programs, policy, accreditation, and faculty support. The APAA works collaboratively with academic deans, faculty leadership, and campus partners to promote consistency, coordination, and academic excellence across the institution while respecting the authority and expertise of schools and departments.

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    Strategic Academic Leadership

     

    + Serving as the Provost's delegate at meetings, events, and engagements as needed.

    + Acting as a trusted advisor to the Provost on academic policy, programmatic priorities, and institutional academic initiatives.

    + Building strong, collaborative relationships with academic deans, directors, faculty, and staff to advance the university's academic mission and strategic goals.

    + Communicating regularly with campus stakeholders on behalf of the Office of the Provost to ensure clarity, consistency, and transparency in academic matters.

    + Supporting shared governance processes by working collaboratively with faculty leadership and governance bodies on academic and curricular matters.

     

    Academic Program Oversight and Policy Development

     

    + Providing leadership for academic program development, review, registration, and approval processes.

    + Serving as the campus Academic Program Liaison to SUNY System Administration and, by extension, the New York State Education Department (SED).

    + Overseeing the campus academic program review process, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, accreditation expectations, and assessment practices.

    + Coordinating updates to the undergraduate and graduate academic catalogs and ensuring the accurate implementation of academic policies.

    + Administering and maintaining the university's curriculum management platform (Curriculog).

    + Ensuring the regular review, interpretation, and implementation of academic policies in alignment with institutional priorities and regulatory requirements.

     

    Accreditation

     

    + Serving as the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).

    + Coordinating institutional accreditation activities, including reporting, compliance monitoring, and self-study efforts.

    + Collaborating with Institutional Research, academic units, and campus leadership to support assessment and documentation related to accreditation standards.

     

    Faculty Development and Support

     

    + Providing leadership for the faculty Renewal, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) process, including guidance, training, and support for faculty and evaluators.

    + Providing support for innovative approaches to teaching, curriculum development, and instructional design in collaboration with deans and faculty.

    + Promoting faculty development initiatives that advance inclusive pedagogy, high-impact practices, and student success.

     

    Workforce Development and Curriculum-to-Career Alignment

     

    + Collaborating with faculty, deans, and external partners to identify emerging workforce trends and align academic offerings with regional and national needs.

    + Supporting the development of academic pathways, including microcredentials, certificates, stackable credentials, and applied learning opportunities.

    + Championing experiential learning as a core component of workforce preparation and promote industry-informed curriculum design across disciplines.

    + Facilitating collaboration between academic programs and career-focused units to strengthen student outcomes and post-graduation success.

     

    Communication, Coordination, and Planning Support

     

    + Preparing and distributing official communications from the Office of the Provost related to academic operations (e.g., course planning guidance, academic timelines).

    + Collaborating with institutional partners to ensure alignment between academic initiatives and broader enrollment, student success, and workforce efforts.

    + Contributing to academic planning by identifying programmatic opportunities, areas for innovation, and strategies to enhance academic quality and sustainability.

    + Working with the Provost and Academic Affairs leadership to support the alignment of academic priorities with available resources and institutional planning.

     

    Salary: $160,000-$165,000 commensurate with experience. SUNY Oneonta is a Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) qualifying employer. Information on SUNY's comprehensive benefits offerings can be found at https://www.suny.edu/benefits. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

    Job Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + An earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution.

    + A record of successful teaching, service, and scholarship or creative activity that merits appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher with tenure.

    + At least three years of experience in academic administration at the department chair, associate dean, or higher level.

    + Demonstrated knowledge of academic policy, curriculum development, assessment of student learning, accreditation, and/or faculty affairs.

    + Evidence of the ability to use data to inform decision-making and advance institutional effectiveness.

    + Demonstrated commitment to equity, student success, and inclusive academic excellence.

    + Demonstrated excellent organizational and analytical skills

    + Demonstrated interpersonal, and written communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Demonstrated ability to lead cross-divisional initiatives and foster collaboration across academic and administrative units.

    + Proven Experience developing academic programs aligned with workforce needs and curriculum-to-career pathways.

    + Familiarity with the SUNY system and its academic policies and procedures.

    + Evidence of a deep understanding of and commitment to the mission of public higher education.

    + Working knowledge of enterprise systems such as Banner, Navigate360, Argos, DegreeWorks, and Brightspace (or comparable systems).
