Description
We believe that inclusion helps us thrive and grow at United across our collaborative Finance teams consisting of Financial Planning & Analysis, Internal Audit, Treasury, Global Procurement, Controllership, Investor Relations and more. These teams provide the financial fuel that keeps our operation running from providing detailed analyses of financial planning, performance, and forecasts to managing our investments and financial strategies. Our Finance team plays an integral role in making our airline profitable and successful by meeting our financial goals.
Job overview and responsibilities
This individual will conduct industry research, build financial models, create presentation materials, and help coordinate due diligence as we pursue investments in emerging and innovative technologies. They will be responsible for evaluating business use cases for startup and early-stage companies primarily in emerging aerospace, aircraft, commercial and other operational technologies that drive significant value and asymmetric return for the company.
+ Research target companies/industries in emerging technologies
+ Maintain competitive intelligence on industry trends regarding new technologies
+ Lead and conduct scenario analysis for varied investment structures
+ Build, maintain, and take ownership of three-statement financial and transactional models on target companies
+ Lead and participate in introductory calls with management teams of target companies
+ Work closely with both the Senior Manager, Director, and Managing Director of United Airlines Ventures to support all active deal negotiations
+ Manage/coordinate with primary business units regarding commercial use cases for emerging technologies as well as other support stakeholders throughout the company including Legal, Government Relations, Corporate Communications, Accounting, Investor Relations, FP&A and Tax
+ Supports portfolio company management by tracking operational and financial milestones, preparing financial summaries and reports, cash flow forecasts and assessments (including evaluating the need and timing of capital raises)
+ Prepare presentation material for investment committees, transaction execution, value creation, and monitoring
+ Synthesize all due diligence findings into investment memorandums, presentations, and comprehensive diligence reports
Please note: This role is Chicago-based and has a 30-50% travel requirement.
Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
+ Bachelor's degree
+ 4+ years of experience in either the airline industry or 2+ years in investment banking, venture capital or private equity
+ Prior experience in a finance, strategy, or consulting organization
+ Strong background in financial and business strategy analysis
+ Experience building three-statement financial models and performing comprehensive valuation analyses
+ Self-starter with entrepreneurial approach, intellectual curiosity
+ Solid project management skills
+ Ability to manage workload effectively and deliver quality work on schedule
+ Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
+ Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
+ Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

+ Master's degree
+ MBA
+ Experience in undertaking due diligence processes and reviewing finance and legal documentation
+ Ideal candidate also has interest (personal and professional) in aviation, travel, energy, and sustainability
The base pay range for this role is $99,750.00 to $129,924.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
