    Primary Function of Organizational Unit

    The Division of Student Affairs fosters student growth and development. The Division of Student Affairs aids, directs, and informs students about services and programs that will expand students’ educational experiences and prepare them for local and global communities. The Division of Student Affairs is responsible for many of the outside the classroom/off campus aspects of student life at NCCU, including Academic Opportunity for Student Success, Campus Recreation and Wellness, Career and Professional Development Services, Counseling Services, FirstGen Forward Transformation Grant “Destination: HBCU First-Gen Graduation”, Office of Health Promotions, Marketing and Communications, McNair Scholars Program, New Student and Family Programs, Residential Life, Student Accessibility Services, Student Advocacy, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Student Engagement and Leadership, Student Health Services, the Annie Day Scholars Program, the Men’s Achievement Center, the Women’s Center, TRIO STEM Success Program, TRIO Teacher Preparation Program, and TRIO Student Acce[SSS] Program.

     

    Primary Purpose of Position

     

    The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (AoVC) reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and provides strategic leadership and vision for the Student Affairs Administration and Resources unit.

     

    The Associate Vice Chancellor provides strategic, operational, and administrative leadership for multiple Student Affairs units, including Marketing and Communications, Grant Development and Management, Technology Support, and direct support for Residential Life. The role also plays a key leadership function in advancing divisional strategic planning initiatives and ensuring intentional alignment between student engagement, leadership development, and institutional priorities.

     

    The Associate Vice Chancellor serves as Chair of the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC), providing oversight and stewardship of student activity fee resources. In this capacity, the AoVC ensures transparent, equitable, and student-centered allocation of funds in alignment with institutional policies, divisional priorities, and student engagement goals, while supporting shared governance and fiscal accountability.

     

    Serving as the de facto Chief of Staff for the Division, the Associate Vice Chancellor oversees budgets, supervises directors, leads staff recruitment and professional development efforts, and ensures alignment with divisional priorities and broader university goals.

     

    In the absence of the Vice Chancellor, the Associate Vice Chancellor routinely acts on their behalf, providing leadership oversight for daily operations and representing the Division as needed. This role is essential to maintaining operational continuity, advancing strategic initiatives, and ensuring that Student Affairs remains responsive, innovative, and student-centered.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    + Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership, management, and oversight of complex student affairs units with a strong focus on student success, engagement, and leadership development.

    + Comprehensive knowledge of student affairs programs, services, policies, and compliance requirements within a higher education environment.

    + Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, initiatives, and deadlines simultaneously.

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information, build collaborative relationships, and represent the Division effectively with various stakeholders.

    Minimum Education/Experience

    + Earned **Doctorate** from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration, Educational Policy and Leadership Studies, or a closely related field.

    + **Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education** , with demonstrated leadership experience in student affairs, including supervision of professional staff, operational management, grant writing, and strategic planning at the departmental, divisional, or campus-wide level.

    + Provides executive leadership and vision for Student Affairs Administration and Resources; supervises directors; mentors and develops staff; represents the Division on behalf of the Vice Chancellor; chairs SAFAC; and fosters a collaborative, student-centered leadership culture.

    + Coordinates divisional priorities, organizes workflows across multiple units, manages calendars and timelines for major initiatives, supports committee structures, and ensures alignment of resources, personnel, and processes to meet operational and strategic goals.

    + Oversees day-to-day operations of assigned units; manages budgets and fiscal resources; ensures policy compliance; addresses operational challenges; supports Residential Life operations; and maintains continuity of services in the absence of the Vice Chancellor.
