    Job Title: Phlebotomist

    Job Description

    The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and making workflow recommendations.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.

    + Update patient information and ensure accurate collection and storage of specimens according to established procedures.

    + Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collections, such as urine or fecal, in a clear and courteous manner.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    + Fully understand physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

    + Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

    + Package specimens for transport and store them at required temperatures.

    + Follow procedures specific to protocol to maintain the integrity of specimens for transport.

    + Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

    + Attend annual department trainings.

    + Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

    Essential Skills

    + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

    + Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + 0-2 years of related experience.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Experience in medical, pediatric, and geriatric patient care.

    + Expertise in healthcare, drawing blood, and handling patient information.

    This is a Contract position based out of Gastonia, NC.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.50/hr.
