    Job Title: Instrumentation TechnicianJob Description

     

    We are seeking a skilled Instrumentation Technician to join our team, responsible for managing and executing crash test data acquisition and instrumentation tasks. This role involves working closely with engineers to ensure the effective collection and processing of test data, maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

    Responsibilities

    + Review test plans with engineers to understand data acquisition and sensor requirements.

    + Control instrumentation and data acquisition systems to collect crash test data.

    + Prepare test setups independently, conduct tests, and acquire/download data.

    + Verify all sensor functionality prior to testing.

    + Select and install calibrated equipment on vehicles.

    + Assemble instrumentation in uniaxial, biaxial, or triaxial configurations.

    + Repair or replace sensors damaged between installation and testing.

    + Diagnose instrumentation issues and determine reparability.

    + Solder and splice small gauge wires as necessary.

    + Document and dispose of non-repairable instrumentation properly.

    + Track data acquisition systems and sensor calibrations, ensuring traceability.

    + Document instruments and calibrations in a database environment.

    + Collaborate effectively in a team environment with technicians and engineers.

    + Ensure high-quality data recording and processing.

    + Order parts and equipment as needed.

    + Maintain shop equipment and tools.

    + Ensure a safe, clean, and organized shop environment.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience in automotive development and testing environments.

    + Experience instrumenting test vehicles, systems, or components.

    + Proficiency with soldering, splicing, and low voltage electrical repairs.

    + Familiarity with instrumentation and sensors such as accelerometers, load cells, strain gauges, potentiometers, etc.

    + Familiarity with data acquisition systems and software like DTS/DataPro.

    + Understanding of digital signal processing and calibration standards.

    + PC skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity and ethical behavior.

    + Capability to multi-task and meet time constraints.

    + Excellent communication and writing skills.

    + Strong interpersonal relationship skills in a culturally diverse environment.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + High School Diploma required.

    + Automotive technology certification or degree preferred.

    + An AAS Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or similar is advantageous.

    Work Environment

    The role involves working in a dynamic automotive testing environment, utilizing various technologies and equipment. The technician will work standard hours with a focus on maintaining safety, cleanliness, and organization in the shop. A collaborative team environment is emphasized, with opportunities for continuous learning and professional growth.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ypsilanti, MI.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
